what type of dye do I have to use to get this color?

I wont be using bleach. And my hair is dark brown.
and what brand is recommend?
TSUBASA.
WORTH IT?: Kind of...
Natural Hair type:
- fine
- straight
- medium
Hair History: -It's been dyed a lot....
Hair color Before: Best picture I have with the blond in it. :X

Hair color After: This is what it looks like now after I've shampooed it like 3 times.

Bleach?: on some parts
Hair Dye: Jerome Russell Punky Colour in Plum
Price: 8 bucks
Changes: My hair feels the same.
Description: - I applied it all over with a tint brush, wrapped the bag I was using as a cape around my head, left it in for 30 minutes, then rinsed with water.
Comments: - I made the mistake of taking off my gloves before rinsing the dye out and I had purple fingernails for like a week. My palms were purple too but it came off with soap, eventually. Omgggg the misery I went through trying to clean my sink and shower, but I gave up on the shower. When I shampoo, the dye comes out and stains it anyways and now it's splattered with light violet. The dye rubs off on the clothes you wear the first couple of days...I sleep with a white t-shirt cover over my pillow and now it's purple... XD But I normally wear dark tops anyways lol.

TSUBASA.: My friend had the smae problem too. She had pink hair and we had swimming class. So everytime her hair got wet it dripped pink all down her back lol

i remember i got purple streaks in my hair

lol i just gave up using gloves...and just mushed it all in with bare hands...

my tub/sink/and towels were purple...and my hands as well. <-people called me a monster D:

but i like that color. I used Raw Deep Purple...<-smelled really good. Like grapes.

oh to get rid of the stains...use liquid bleach and kinda pour it over the spots and leave it there for a while....and scrub a little bit.

seeing your hair makes me want to bleach my hair and dye it purple again :[...

I was blonde for a couple of months, but decided to go with a more natural to me color, since I'm naturally a brunette, but I wanted a bit lighter than my true color.

AFTER!

Picture is really bad quality and kind of large (sorry!) but you get the idea~!
What do you guys think? I think I made a good decision :]

QUESTION :

um , im thinking of dying my hair maybe a dark red colour , or maybe a light brown colour, i have virgin black hair

would it be necessary to bleach my hair for those colours ? ^

alsoo, for bleaching your hair..would it be best to bleach yourself or go to salon for it ?
cause i hear its easy to damage your hair by bleaching.. >_>
peppermintsugar
Absolutely you have to bleach it. Think about it. If you draw a line in black marker (your hair), are you gonna be able to cover it up with red marker (the dye)? If you have white marker (bleached hair), can you cover that with red marker (red dye)? Of course :]
Bleaching your hair is always damaging to some extent, even if you go to a salon. I've never gotten it done professionally myself, and I've bleached my hair many, many, times.

okay so i've attempted the light brown hair color a couple of times.
and well its not working T.T
for my current hair color do you guys think i can try a blonde hair dye and just leave it in
for 10-15 mins and it'll be the light brown color like hers?

[img]http://i39.tinypic.com/2ugnyid.jpg

that's what i do, just make sure you don't get one with bleach in it? that just makes it straight up orange. but then again... idk. bc when i dye my hair i always lighten it a bit with sun in first.. then dye it.

my hair is super dry though, but i don't think it's (all) because of the sun in. i dyed it 3 times in one day before (bc i was stupid) and that was what caused the dry gross hair. except for the fact that it made my hair wavy and people actually complimented me on my hair.

ANYWAY i'm starting to babble. but yeah ... my hairs brown now and i dyed it with blond. i left it in for about half an hour i think? i did it once and it was pretty light and once my roots started to grow in i dyed it again (another blond) and its even lighter -- but not blond. YOU KNOW?

omg i don't think this made any sense . sawee

augh and i just realized this comment was made in may

Yes, you would have to bleach. The dark red is plausible without the bleach, but you would have to pick a very vibrant and lighter shade for it to remotely come out. The light brown is obvious that you need bleach.

Adding an all over light color on top of a previous dyed part will always lighten it. I say go to the salon and get it done there before you damage your hair further. Paying mix and match with at home dyes could prove to be way to tricky, especially because you're new at it.

This is how I look:

So, do you think that a light/white-blonde will look decent on me? *__* Or should I just forget about it D:

I think it would wash out your skin tone and make you look really dull. Black/darker hair gives you contrast and I think it looks better. But then again, I may be biased. It's a rarity that I like blonde Asians lol.

^^ you'll have to bleach it once or twice to get the blonde, especially if your hair is darker. if you want a specific tint you should invest in a toner. any beauty supply would have one, and i recommend kaleidoscope bleach.

if your hair is currently dyed, and you want to redye it to a new colour, would you have to dye it black/bleach first in order for the new colour to turn out (somewhat) accurate?

I have a question! so im thinking about dying my hair back to it's natural color. my natural hair color is black and right now its brown....so if i dye it, would the black fade away? x_x

WORTH IT?: - YES
Natural Hair type:
- fine
- straight
- long hair

Hair History: -
I started doing stuff to my hair maybe starting a year ago I...

-bleached it golden-y orange:
beforeafter

-dyed it red (HATED it, the color was so old ladylike...i thought):

-stripped off the red color...most of it at least, so it had this blond-orange-red fade effect:

-roots started growing out and attempted to bleach the roots myself...came out horrible ^^;; so i dyed my entire head dark golden brown...which was darker then what I was going for:

-roots started growing out again so i dyed it LIGHT golden brown, which I liked:

-lastly this time, roots grew out and I was tired of dyed hair (and black roots growing out) wanted to go back to black hair which i kinda missed. So I dyed it blue black...since I still wanted to try something different:

Hair color Before: Light Golden brown

Hair color After: Midnight (blue-black)

Bleach?: not the last time

Hair Dye: Loreal midnight?

Price: - $10 for per box, $20 for two (long hair)

Changes:
- Damage: I had to dye my hair with the midnight color two separate times because the first time I wasn't smart enough and only used one box for my long hair. I started to see that i missed some spots after washing my hair a couple of times and some parts had this tinge of yellow in it. Then I dyed my hair with the second box, making sure to cover all the spots i missed before. I noticed my hair became really dry...dryer then when I had first dyed my hair blueblack. Maybe this wouldn't happen if I had used both boxes to start with so...if you have long hair...use two boxes girls.

- Texture change?
I read somewhere that dyeing your hair can add more volume, and I have to say that it is true. I always had lank (though soft) pin straight hair, and the top of my head was ALWAYS flat, so I had to always keep my scalp clean etc. After dying my hair I sometimes even get natural waves after washing my hair. Hair also feels thicker and I like the added volume.

I think the added volume is due to my hair being more damaged now, not as soft as before, so my hair doesn't fall right back into place like it did in the past. Also layering helped too. Although I had layers in the past and I could never get my hair into the volumized look that my spanish friend had...^^;;

Do NOT dye it black unless Black is the color you want to achieve. It all depends on your current hair color, and the new color you're trying to get.

I don't see why the black would fade away. Dye it the darkest shade of brown instead of black to get a more natural look.

My mum is letting me dye my hair any colour as long as I don't bleach it.

But the colour I want requires my hair to be bleached. I want this colour: picture here! (the blond-ish part on the right, not the brown)

Is it ok to dye my hair a light brown and then keep dying it over a long period of time to get that colour?

and what happens if you dye black/really dark brown hair with platinum-blond hair dye without bleaching it?

i had natural black/really dark brown hair and i dyed it with Garnier Nutrisse #100 Extra Light Natural Blonde.
it easily faded to an orangey brown color.

basically, your hair will turn bright orange/bronze if you dye it with platinum hair dye.
and i'm sorry, but that color does require bleach... :C
going platinum blonde is frustrating if you want quick results and it takes quite a bit of time and money.
i'd go with your first idea. after you dye it light brown and its time to dye again, i'd suggest going to a salon and seeing how light they can get it for you without bleaching it.
good luck!

if you have a more tan asian complexion as opposed to a pale one.. honestly, i dont recommend it. i saw a couple of people try it in person and it looked really horrible (the bronze orange that is)
it also gets you a LOT of attention, almost equal to blonde. if you cant deal with some weird stares... eh. not a good plan.
its really a matter of your own opinion, but since you like to experiment, i say go for it. wink.gif

I have a question ^^
I have never dyed my hair before, but I was wondering how often you guys re-color (touch up?). Like, don't your roots start showing within a few weeks or so? And when you do, do you buy a whole new box of hair dye each time (assuming you "box-dye" o.o)
happyheartmee
Question that needs quick answering!
I dyed my hair chocolate brown yesterday (store bought dye) from like typical Asian black - dark brown hair, and my friend wants me to go swimming today!
Can i? Or will the dye come out or what?

Also, her pool is salt water, not chlorine.

happyheartmee: Been always told to never wash or wet my hair directly after dying. I would wait a few days.

^ I washed my hair last night though...!? D: Dang. Haha okay so I think I'll go in the water but not put my head under water! Or get it wet as little as possible!

@LindseyAlyssa

Amazing hair color! I think it suites you really well.
Does it fade though? : (
LindseyAlyssa
@o1honey
I've had cherry red hair before, and it did fade.
I use a lot of heat on my hair ex. flat iron, blow dryer. so that fades it quicker,
but I do use multiple "color lasting" type products that protect my hair.

I've never had it this specific color though,
so I cannot say how long it will last.

So to answer your question,
it probably will :/

but I won't let it >:)

haha. (:

Paul Mitchell color does last a pretty long time,
and with correct care should last for .. 1.5 - 2 months before fading.
the_wronged</3
I was just wondering but how do I know if I would need to use two boxes of hair dye? For example, is there a certain length it needs to be to require that much hair dye? This thread really makes me want to dye my hair again :]

WORTH IT?: - Heck YES

Natural Hair type:
- pin straight
- thick
- shiny

Hair History: -
- Looong history.

Hair color Before:- black

Hair color After: - I went through a long series of different hair styles so I'll just post the solid colors I've done in order. This is from 2006, I think, to now.

And my current hair color:

Bleach?: - Yepp, and Color Zap to lift hair dyes. Only natural colors.

Hair Dye: - For natural shades I just used what I found in the stores, for unnatural shades I've used Special Effects, RAW, Manic Panic, Beyond the Zone, and Color Fiend.

Price: - Oh, who knows, but it's way cheaper than going to a salon.

Changes:
- Damage? Of course there's damage when it comes to bleaching your hair, but the thing about it is you have to know how to take care of it after wards cause my hair still soft even after all the bleaching
- Texture change? It's more rough, but because the bleach makes your hair more porous, I'm capable of styling my hair better and keeping it in place. Which that's most important to me cause my used to be flat to my head. I hated it.

Description: - For bleaching, you have to do the process as quick as you can or you will get uneven tones of yellow or orange. I used foil, tinting brush, and a bowel and I buy buckets of bleach for future projects and a big bottle of developer. After mixing the two properly, I section my hair and start from bottom up and foil half inch sections as I go up. If it's virgin hair, I leave it in for 45 minutes, if I just need to lighten it, about 20 minutes.
For coloring, I just put the dye in. If there any other color I want to put in, the procedure may be different depending on what I'm going for.

Comments: - I love everything I do to my hair and I love every color :3 I'm going to be going back to blue in a month or two. Probably just in time for my birthday.
