SeaTools
SeaTools is a comprehensive, easy-to-use diagnostic tool that helps you quickly determine the condition of the disk drive in your external hard drive, desktop or laptop computer. It includes several tests that will examine the physical media on your Seagate or Maxtor disk drive and any other non-Seagate disk drive.
Did you know over 20 percent of the drives returned to Seagate for repair are actually found to be healthy? The SeaTools diagnostic application saves you time, data, and money by keeping healthy hard disk drives in your system. Please, don't kill a healthy drive. When a drive fails SeaTools, it will issue a SeaTools Test Code which helps with a warranty return. We offer two types:
SeaTools for Windows
SeaTools for Windows tests SATA, USB, 1394, ATA (PATA/IDE) and SCSI drives. It installs onto your system. SeaTools for Windows is completely data safe. If the drive passes SeaTools for Windows, your troubleshooting can move to other areas.
SeaTools for DOS
SeaTools for DOS tests SATA or ATA drives from a bootable CD-ROM or floppy. It can test a SATA (Serial ATA) or older ATA (PATA/IDE) interface hard drive. Because the software boots to its own operating system you can test your drive regardless of the OS installed on it. You can even test a new or completely blank drive. In addition, this version offers limited repair and data erasure.
Other Diagnostic Options
Note: OneTouch and FreeAgent drive users may alternatively use the diagnostic feature built into the OneTouch Manager or FreeAgent software. FreeAgent Desktop users should use Seatools for Windows.
