IE8 Favorites

I have some Favorites on my notebook's IE8, but I have a more complete set of Favorites on my desktop's IE8.I just want to 'get rid' of the Favorites on the notebook and substitute the Favorites from my desktop. Is there any way to transfer the Favorites from the desktop to the notebook without having duplicate Favorites on the notebook? (How can I clear-out the Favorites on the notebook? Is that an advisable remedy?) I am able to Export the Favorites (complete set) from my desktop to my small flash-dirve, but don't know how to Import them to the notebook. I know how to use the Import on the IE8 on the notebook, but I don't know what to do with the Favorities that are already there. (I tried it once and found out that I had duplicate favorites in the Favorites folder.)
Please advise and thank you.
Alice

P.S. I did a preview of this post, but then I could not see anywhere to post it from the Preview page. How do I post from the Preview page. When I tried to return to this original post screen, the page "froze" and I had to Alt/Del/Ctrl to close the TechGuy page. Very confusing indeed.

Here are a couple of suggestions:
1. http://www.komando.com/tips/index.aspx?id=1384&page=1

2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Favorites
Copy the contents to a floppy or flash drive and place them in the same location on the new computer.

.If you're using Firefox, go to C:\Documents and Settings\[your user name]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.0a… and copy the file bookmarks.html

3. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...utorial66.html
Hope one of these ideas will work for you.

If you wish to keep the same order in your Favorites list in IE8, you can copy the following registry key by right-clicking it and selecting Export. Choose a folder to save it to. Then, copy the reg file to the USB flash drive.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOr der\Favorites

Plug your USB flash drive into your Notebook and copy the reg file to a folder. Then, simply double-click on the reg file to merge it to your registry.

If your duplicate favorites have the same name, you'll receive a prompt to replace them or not. If they don't have the same name, I don't know how you can possibly prevent duplicates.

To access the registry, click on Start > Run > type regedit
