Chris McIntosh This is the Adobe Photo Downloader which interacts with attached cameras or Flash (e.g., MMC, SD-RAM) drives.  See also: Link
Bert Downloader for Adobe Photoshop. Can be disabled. Not in preferences options what should normally be but manually. Look in the link on www.adobe.com to see how.  See also: Link
Tom It installed itself with photshop annoying and can't get rid of it
Slate I found this program to be slow and a memory hog. You only seem to need it if you have no other way to transfer pictures from your camera to computer.
To dissable Adobe Album Starter from automatically loading in the system tray, delete the Adobe Album Starter value from this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\ (For those comfortable editing the Windows Registry.)  See also: Link
Malcolm Stevens Hogs CPU use when opening Outlook, speeds up when process deleted by Task manager
Part of Adobe Acrobat Reader
Graeme Sutherland NZ Is a nuisance, rather use Explorer. Believe a backdoor Trojan uses it - high CPU in background.
Sabrina Huckins The original apdproxy.exe is most likely essential for Adobe Photo. But it may also be a malware camouflaged as apdproxy.exe. I had CyberDefender on my computer (which turned out to be a major problem) and the apdproxy.exe was using all my computer usage, when I removed CyberDefender I haven't had any more problems with it. SpyBot S & D said that CyberDefender is Spyware, but I didn't believe them because I thought it was a great program and I was currently using it. If you have CyberDefender, try removing it first and see it the problem clears up.
Gauke Zijlstra Sometimes my PC is running crazy while I'm e.g. just typing text. APDPROXY.EXE takes all the processor time then, while I don't even know whith what application the Adobe program came into my computer...

Larry Brown The Adobe photo downloader is non-essential, but very useful. It automatically pops up when you connect any device that has photos or movies. It grabs the photos, fixes red-eye, files them according to your preference, and then deletes them from the device. It works great and is super convenient, especially for the non-techno-wizard.

Tracer On my XPpro desktop, apdproxy seemed to consume memory in an area that prevented proper shutdown and interfered with memory access by other programs. The solution was to end the task completely, or prevent it from starting at all.
Gerald It showed after installing a new HP printer. It does not seem to alter any programs.
