Default [RELEASE] Show Key Presses HUD Overlay for movement videos, instructions etc.

Greetings,

Looking at the excellent Training Map thread, you will find that it would be helpful for many people if they could see which keys are being pressed for how long when people strafe and do difficult jumps etc. This is now possible. Of course, many of you will recognize this feature already.

YouTube demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBOvFGVQ6P4

New layout for playing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoAe4g4xR_0
You need ShowKeypress.zip and ShowKeypress-SmallHUD.zip

http://www.quakelive.com/forum/attac...1&d=1240453997

This script is a combination of HUD and CFG script and uses an AutoHotKey script to expand the limiting QL scripting capabilities. You do not need AutoHotKey to use it, I have supplied a .exe file but you can also use the original .ahk script. You can get AutoHotKey free at http://www.autohotkey.com/

==> This script does not work on demos, it is for videos <==

I hope that maybe some talented people will make use of the script to help out beginners with QL movement and post their runs of different QL maps and movement maps in slow-motion on YouTube. It can also work the other way around, better people analyze your movement by looking at the key presses. Or even to analyze your own movement and see what you're doing wrong objectively.

Please note that I currently see no possibility to make such a script for demos and I hope id will help soon.

Have fun.

Looks brilliant and the idea is good.

Just one thing, the movement arrows should be more centered i think.

Take a look at Defrag, it's perfected over there and much smaller arrows too, so that its playable with them enabled, and so you can play and see where you go as you also see the movement arrows.

IMO AutoHotKey should be banned by PunkBuster somehow. It means that other executable influences QL executable, which should be considered as a cheating.

If you're smart you can do way more with AHK - timer script, rocket jump script, even aimbot with AutoIt. No, I won't tell you how, but it's possible.

Awesome idea and hud looks really nice, will try out later. The exe that comes with it means you can record your movements then play them back while recording, right? Instead of trying to play and record at the same time which gives me 10 fps :/.

DCR that's a good idea. I've never played Defrag, I've basically taken this setup from Warsow. There's a slightly smaller version of the icon overlay in the zip, mainly I used the current setup so it's easy to see in recorded videos.

I've tried another setup: Around crosshair with small bars, invisible when non-pressed. Is this any good for while playing?

Demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoAe4g4xR_0

The files are attached, bars are available in white, black, red, green and blue.

RAZ3R, I'm currently looking into a feature for recording keystrokes as well since it would also support demo playback in combination but right now it only works while playing unfortunately. More a proof of concept. But demo playback is underway (will need two files per demo then). I'm not too sure how well AHK supports dynamic recording, so it might need another program on top. I'm looking into it.

Excellent work, this will work great for some people. Oh and I kinda disagree on the Defrag arrows thingy. Your hud is so much better than the defrag version which is the pain in the *** to try and read especially when you're strafing or pressing different buttons really rapidly.

Good job once again

The red DOT that also jumps up wasnt intuitive enough and too bloated.

A simple small < or > or /\ or \/ at the end of the "arrow" would have sufficed. ( I mean, there is no key that equals +w and +a, that the video suggests)

And it should be just plain white with MAYBE a bit shadow on. Just really simple but highly efficient.

Support for demos is almost done, it is easier than I expected.

(The creator of the demo will also have to record his keypresses obviously.)
