In Marvin's Mainichi piece "Barmaid-molesting mayor's wife takes flak for outing sordid details", amidst the odd story of the mayor and the mama-san (" 'What am I gonna do? My willy's gone and gotten all hard,'" the mama-san reads from an e-mail Sakurai sent her. "All the e-mail he sent me was filth like that."), is this snippet:

Japanese law allows wives to sue their husbands' mistresses for compensation in the event an extramarital affair is exposed.
I was aware that a wife can attach a portion of her husband's income without getting a divorce if he plays around but this is the first I've heard of the possibility of getting compensation from the mistress.

There's always compensation (don't you love Japan). I think in divorce the spouse and the playmate can be up for around 3 million yen each in the usual airy-fairy world of Japanese law/lore. So applying lore to this kind of case, you keep the marriage (probably get compensation), and fine the lover.
