(cache) Should Mao DUMP her Masquerade Waltz SP?

I voted to keep it not because I enamored with it but because I think the program she should really dump is her LP. I think it would be a lot at this point in the season for Mao to get two new programs for the season. I think she could make her SP work if she hits all her elements. Last year, her Masquerade LP was actually kinda nice when she was on.

I say keep it! With no mistakes and some passion, it would be good program. Mao's problems aren't her programs. It's more deeper:

, mom, press and herself.

I hope that Mao sorts out her problems soon. She is too talented. Poor Mao!

It's a choreographically lazy program (basically the same layout as last year's LP), but it's not as bad as her death dance LP. Now that she's probably not going to make the Grand Prix Final, I hope she doesn't let whatever is going on with her just completely defeat her for the rest of the season. I'd love for her to get two new programs, but if she were just going to dump one, I'd rather it be her LP.

Am I the only one who would just be over the moon if Mao returned to her 2006-07 SP to Nocturne No.2 Op. 9-2 in E flat major?

That has got to be one of my all-time fave SPs ever and is what made me fall in love with Asada's skating. This program to me is everything Mao used to be and should be. It brought out the best in her skating through an amazing musical choice that showcased the light, airy nature of her skating. It's such a better contrast to the dark, heavy, drury programs she's had as of late.

Bring back this SP please Mao!!

I would say yes if I didnt think she should also dump her LP. I dont think she can change both at this time.

I think Mao should dump it for 2 reasons:
1. It's repetitive. Not a good choice to repeat a program in the Olympic season, especially if it wasn't all that well received in the previous season.
2. According to reports, her Caprice SP had already been prepared before switching to Masquerade. So it would be definitely easier for Mao to switch to Caprice than have a totally new LP choreographed.

Actually IMHO the Bells LP has gorgeous choreography... Dump the atrocious costume, dump the second 3A, land the jumps, perhaps switch the music to the version orchestrated by L.Stokowski ot Sir H.Wood, and we might have a masterpiece in the making. It just needs a SP that would contrast with it, two heavy, gloomy programs are too much for my taste. And no, pink Barbie dress and a smile plastered on face do not make the program a light one!

I think the LP is worse than the SP. Even if I don't really like her SP !
So, for me, keep the SP and leave the LP !

I've always liked Masquerade so I personally didn't have problems with it being this season's SP. However, for strategic reasons, I did think for a while that Caprice might be better. BUT... now, having thought things through even more, Masquerade Waltz is great music choice!

I think they'll make quite alot of small choregraphy changes. I think/hope they'll change the step sequence and Mao will achieve level 4!

I really hope the Masquerade SP will be dumped. It just irks me to see last season's LP wrapped in mint or pink, decorated with a smile and pretending to be a happy program when it's just the same as last season's dramatic LP.

To say the truth I would like Mao to change BOTH of her programs. If the SP had been nearly completed, maybe getting a new LP (or bringing back Fantasie Impromptu) wouldn't be that difficult..?

She doesn't need the stress of a new program at this point. This could be a great program if skated well -- I say tweak it and make it work! Instead of cumbersome, this could be transformed into powerful. She needs to skate it with passion.

Hey everyone, I've been posting on the ISU site for a while but thought I'd add my two cents (even though they're worth less

Personally, I think Mao ought to switch her SP to caprice. This should be easy enough to do.

As for the long program, I would rather see the dress revamped to something more classical/elegant (no ruffles) and switch the music to the piano version without any orchesteral accompianment. It might take a little while to find a version with similar enough timing that the choreo doesn't need to be changed, however it should be possible. Then the jump layout can be left alone, the dramatic aspect kept in contrast to the short, while it isn't nearly as heavy as we are seeing now.

Ditto. One of the worse orchestral transcriptions I've ever heard. I think a small change of inserting the original piano version would showcase both Mao's lightness (using piano solo) and her maturity (due to the tone of the piece).

Under CoP good SP do not seem to help with winning competitions, but bad LP certainly lose them. I think going to an old SP would help Mao on the level of being more comfortable with pacing and help with jumping so she doesn't lose points in the SP. It doesn't have to be an artistic masterpiece.

She's still getting fairly high PCS isn't she? The music is not to blame, neither is the program, she just needs to straighten out her jump technique, I can't believe she hasn't even fixed her flutz yet. And lose the 3A or get it consistently fully rotated. She & Carolina are so talented, how sad they won't make the GPF.

ETA: I really like the new pink costume she wore at CoR, she should keep it for the Olympics!
