I don't like indirectly translated articles because it's quite different from the origianl one.
Reading the original, what she said wasn't really "I really want to see the words 'Kim Olympic Champion' in the news." but when asked what she would like to be called after the Olympics she hesitated and thought for a while and said "I haven't thought about it yet. Maybe Olympic champion?" |

It seems that she is also asking her fans, so many of whom are new skating fans, to educate themselves a little more about skating and common practices in the stands at competitions. I think that's great.
One thing I have heard several times (including in a few emails regarding Worlds) is that some of her fans (enough to be noticed and an issue) pack up and go after she skates. Not a problem if you don't want to see the other skaters (although one should) but if you're moving while the next skater is up, it's just not fair to other fans nor to that skater. I respect her for saying something. She seems like a nice young lady. Willowway |

Based on what I saw at TEB not only do they "pack up and go", they seemed to think nothing of arriving at any time during other skaters events. (The TEB "ushers" made NO effort to get people to wait....like 4 minutes standing up there will kill you!)

We saw the same phenomenon at Skate America. They appeared during her events, for the most part appeared not to even remotely appreciate other skaters and were not interested in other disciplines. I couldn't help but think prior to her LP that they were a major distraction that could have thrown her off her game.
They have yet to develop/understand skating competition etiquette and generally need to develop more knowledge about skating in general. I also saw this phenomenon at Festa, clapping and cheering indiscriminately. |

Good for her for speaking up.
I love a lot about Korea - being a huge Korean -drama and -pop fan, but the fans really are too much sometimes. They are so loud and take so much space. It's a shame really. Hopefully Yu-na's fans will take her words to heart and educate themselves. |

I think a lot of these fans are not as much skating fans as they are "support someone from the same country" fans. Which is fine too, but some of them could be more respectful of the event and/or the other skaters.
That being said, good for Yu-na for making a point about this. I hope her words have some effect. |

I didn't even notice it at SA. They certainly didn't disturb me. But I always chuckle at the "and they packed up and left after she skated" complaint. Since she skated last in both the SP and LP, I got up and left too, it never occurring to me that not sitting in a cold arena after the event is over is disrespectful to those who already skated.

I am glad Yu Na has said something. It must be very annoying for your favorite skater to be after Yu Na or something and people be rustling around and getting up and leaving.
Props to her for teaching her fans proper etiquette |

I wasn't able to go to Skate America this, year, but I got some intel from a from a friend who was there and she spent a good bit of time decrying the Yuna fans and their behavior. Her description of those fans very much reminded me of the ladies event at the 2004 US Nationals.
I think it's very cool that Yuna is at least making an attempt to educate her fans on how to behave properly.

Good. It's time many of her fans realized that figure skating competition ain't a soccer match.

I was at SA. Yu-Na's fans were not in my section, but I noticed lots of people in the sections near me - on the curve and end - opposite kiss n cry, they were only there for a short time around her skate. Since Ladies was first, the absence was quite noticeable during Dance.

Is she? Because if this article is anything to go by, she's complaining about their behaviour but isn't offering any suggestions, advice or other solutions to the issue.

I don't really think it matters whether she say anything or not. She is national news for S.Korea.

It appeared during SA that there were clearly some large groups who came just for her, but the only objectionable behavior I saw was some chanting during the warm ups that probably distracted all the skaters warming up.
But I also saw some really lovely fans who clearly had been attracted by Yu-Na, but were enjoying the whole experience. I was chatting with one family whose young children were thrilled to see Yu-Na but also recognized Rachael and Fumie and were cheering for everyone. This appeared to be their first live event, and they seemed to appreciate any suggestions I could give them. It was so nice to see their enthusiasm - it reminded me of the first competition I attended and how thrillig it was to walk into the arena and see my favorite skaters practicing. While any new fans may take awhile to learn some of the traditions of the sport, it's always nice to see new fans at the events and I hope some of them will enjoy it enough to stay interested once their favorite stops competing. I'm sure the organizers were thrilled to have the additional people support the event financially.

I was thinking that respect to the work of the skaters and a minimum of education and good ways it is sufficient. I have never been present at a competition in live but I am not a stupid and i knows the differentiates that it exists with a football match |
