A little history: Joseph Barltrop, born 1810, began the tradition by making personal footwear in London in very modest premises, The date of his first commercial order was 1829. By coincidence the first boat race between the universities of Oxford and Cambridge was staged and Robert Peel the Home Secretary decided that his law officers would now be uniformed, hence they became known as the 'Peelers' the forefathers of the Metropolitan police. Most importantly for us, Clara Louise Tricker, married Walter Barltrop the son of Joseph and in 1829 changed the name of the footwear from Barltrop to the now famous Trickers and five generations later Tricker's still strive to make footwear the finest available, keeping the tradition of fine craftsmanship and strict attention to detail from their St.Michaels Road. Northampton factory, which they moved to from the East End of London in 1905. Trickers shoes and boots are still made by hand and on the bench by time served craftsmen with many years experience and skill, using only the finest leathers from around the world , which nowadays represent a striking and enduring quality in an age of mass production and indifferent standards, our footwear is of an exceptional quality for which there is an ever increasing demand.
