It's clearly obvious which ones are trying to pass someone else' creation off as their own, but some not so much.

That is a common excuse swipers make, however, in this case there are 2 clear reasons why this person is in fact trying to pass it off as their own.
1) He took the time to cover up the watermarks to hide the source.
2) He entered it into a contest with the intent to when a "prize" for himself.
I guess we at Brick~Busters! want to educate people that the "look at the cool thing I found and reposted" isn't good enough anymore.

Well, they mostly tend to be entered in one contest or another. What I think happens on the LU is that they announce a challenge based on some theme or idea. Then these little snotty swipers fire up google image search and try to find images that fit that theme. So the swipes are almost always in contests. The prizes thankfully aren't anything of monetary value. Probably some LU flare or virtual trophy or something.
