Crayon Shin-chan, Volume 1 In the wake of the passing of mangaka Yoshito Usui , the mangaka behind Crayon Shin-chan who died after falling off of a mountain on September 11th this year, TV Asahi has reportedly announced that they would like to continue Shin-chan beyond the materials that were already in the works prior to Usui's death-- not unlike several other very long-running and popular anime, such as Doraemon and Sazae-san, the latter of which is one of the longest-running TV shows in the world. Prior to Usui's death, the anime was already scheduled to come back from hiatus on October 16th, although it's unclear at this time whether they'll meet that deadline. They are currently in talks with Usui's family and the Shinei production studio; no possible writers to replace Usui have been proffered up to the public just yet. If they can find someone who can do the show justice, it would be very nice for Shin-chan to continue, not just to honor Usui's memory but also to help support the family he left behind. On the other hand, if they wind up with some half-assed writer who isn't anywhere near as funny and the show starts to fail, well, that won't do anyone any good. Those of you more familiar with Shin-chan, please chime in: would you rather it ended now, or continue?
