PLANET GRIFFIN concludes the Monday blog rush on a sad note... 51 year old YOSHITO USUI, internationally known as the creator of the popular CRAYON SHIN-CHAN manga in Japan, was found dead at the base of Mt. Arafune after sustaining multiple injuries from a fall that occured during one of his regular climbing stints. According to Forensics, Usui died sometime during the afternoon of September 11th when Usui began his climb.
Futabasha's MANGA TOWN magazine will continue the Shin-Chan series until it's December issue, which ships in November. Usui had already completed the art for two more installments of the series shortly before his fateful trip. TV ASAHI in Tokyo publicly announced its thanks to the creator and expressed "... Condolences from our hearts..." from the editorial staff. Currently, talks are underway to begin work on the remainder of the television anime series.
