Well without the incentive of the money/advertising/exposure from basic cable, I doubt FUNimation will continue to dub more seasons to put on their (problem-filled) video player for free. Still, I'll keep some hope for it.

You know what something? I think SPIKE TV should air the next season of Shin Chan just like they did it with Afro Samurai.

I'd like to see Funi dub the Shin-chan/Kamen Rider Den-O special. I watched it before the first movie and it's really funny.

It would be awesome if there was a 100-foot Happiness Bunny (parody of the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man) attacking Kasukabe.

A Shin-chan fan can dream you know.

Hey FuniOP,

I know it probably isn't feasible for them to continue dubbing whole seasons, but do you think it's possible to release some of the Shin movies on DVD (To me, releasing just the movies makes more sense to me at this point. For one thing it could save the writers the process of going through the entire library of segments and handpicking ones for a 13-episode DVD that might not sell well in the end).

I mean, despite Shin no longer having any TV exposure, that shouldn't be a factor in not doing at least movie dubs. I mean, FUNi already dubs shows that get DVD only but also don't get any cable TV exposure.

I just think they should put out at least "Adult Empire Strikes Back"(The most well-known of the Shin movies and I think the one everyone wants FUNi to do) as a trial run and see how it performs without TV exposure.

Yeah, they dub shows that are never on TV, but the whole point of their dub of Shin Chan was to make it into an Adult Swim comedy hit. Unlike other dubs, they actually had to completely rewrite everything and even do some video editing, which no doubt costs more. But it would be nice if they would at least dub some movies in the future. Either way, I have no way of knowing, so I'll just have to wait and see what happens.

Lord of the Onion Rings - a parody of Lord of the Rings. There was the special (dubbed in Spanish) on blip.tv before Shin-Ei took it down.

The special should be posted on YouTube and Funimation Video.

Well, as I mentioned above I would like for FUNi to at least put out Adult Empire one day (Even though there's no chance in it happening.
That said, take what I’m writing below as a “What if…?” for fun).

But the thing is if they do, for once I'd actually would like for them to keep the sentimental feel and the movie's theme of nostaglia intact. Normally, I don't really care that FUNi completely changes everything for the dub, but this is the exception.

After all, part of the reason Adult Empire is a decent Shin film was the fact it was a mix of typical Shin comedy with some good, touching moments. Were FUNi to dub it, I'd like to see them do the same; rewrite the film's comedic moments (Like the entire time where the kids are alone in Kasukabe) but keep the tone of the touching moments (Such as Hiro's flashback to his childhood and the ending) the same.

For example, they should keep the film’s villains Ken and Chako’s motive for changing to world back to simpler times intact. In the original, Ken’s reasoning for his plan was something along the lines of people being “too tied to material things and people are no longer as full of hopes” as they once were.

FUNi could make fun of themselves and change Ken’s reasoning for hating the modern age is because of how corrupt the world has become and that no one has any moral value anymore (I.E. Shin and the kids cussing all the time and the adults act like its nothing). Like in the scene where Ken and Chako walk through their simulated town, their conversation could be something like this:

Chako: It’s so refreshing to come back here…

Ken: Agreed. Look at how wonderful our little simulated town is…everything is pure and everyone remembers the moral values that modern society has forgotten. To think that long ago the world was exactly like this…I feel so ashamed at mankind. The world has become so corrupt. No one has any decency or values anymore…

Chako: I know…everyone curses and say sexual things all the time to each other and no one pays any mind to it…even the smallest of children. It’s even gone as far as kid’s TV programming like that Action Bastard rubbish…it disgusts me thinking about it.

Ken: We have to correct things back to the way they were. The adults will soon remember the values they have long forgotten, and we’ll rid the world of all traces of this corrupt age…

Chako: Including its children. It’s sad that they must be sacrificed…*sigh*Such a shame.

Ken: Blame society.

Chako: If only they had memories of the world's old values...

(Yes, I know that the original I don't think Ken had the intention of killing the kids...but this would make the ending and Shin's "I want to grow up!" speech have more suspense to it)

Anyways, they could write it that when Hiro and Mitzi were Shin's age the world was like it really is (It wasn't proper for them to curse, etc,)...but somewhere down the line when they were growing up the world slowly lost its values to the point where it is in the dub.

So when Hiro and Mitzi get brainwashed by Ken's nostalgic gas and start acting like kids, they also start to remember the world's old moral values and begin to look down at Shin for his foul mouth and want nothing to do with him. Then as a joke Shin and the kids are confused that the adults are suddenly complaining about them cussing and they find it "abnormal".

But anyway that's one possible way they could have gone with the plot.

So, one Question. Will there be anymore shin on AS? or is Funi Done Dubbing it. I really thought it was pretty funny, alittle to much Toilet humor sometimes, but I still decently enjoyed it. I would love to see some more shin on AS. or at least some reruns ever now & then.

(It had one of my favriote ending songs, it was one of the only anime eds, that made you wanna dance to it, LOL! Party party!!!)

I'm afraid AS let the broadcast rights expire. But I believe FUNi still has the distrubtion rights so the DVDs are still available (I've seen banner ads on YouTube stating that the Season 1 DVDs had a price drop earlier this week. I suggest nabbing them while FUNi can still sell them)

Wow, Moral value references in AESB. That would sound like if Ken was Adolf Hitler. I hope FUNi doesn't put any holocaust references in the movie (otherwise it would be banned and would hurt FUNi's sales) like if Ken would create a kiddie holocaust if the children refused to adapt his moral values as like if he hated kids.

Georgie would make conspiracy theories about Ken, his museum, and his moral values. The Oolong Tea scene is funny, although it may have to be edited out because it contains alcohol. Another thing that's funny is the masked wrestling program where that masked man wielding a soda tab to attack his opponent.

Ted Lewis (voice of Giovanni from Pokemon, and Bakura fron Yu-Gi-Oh) would make a perfect fit to voice Ken.

As for voicing Chako, I would probably pick Kira Vincent Davis for her.

FUNi Adult Empire Strikes Back Quotes:

Shin: Sorry, Hima. That bugger Georgie is too useless.

George: Will you stop that?!!

Shin: How dare you take pity for this child?

Georgie: Shut up, Shin. It's too annoying.

Shin: What's the use of studying if you don't have street smarts? I'm going back to work anyway. Go find yourself another man.

Georgie: Shin, wait! I'm sorry! Hey!

Maso: Georgie...

Georgie: I was just kidding. How about this shop. My treat.

Whoops...it never occured to me that my idea would have connections to Hitler or the holocaust (I was thinking of the term child genocide), nor did I intend for any references.

I just thought that since Ken hated the modern age in the Japanese version his reasons for hating it because of how much society is corrupt in the FUNi dub just suddenly clicked for me. Also, I thought doing that would make Ken stating "You have no future anymore" and Shin's "I want to grow up!" plea make more sense. But in that case, forget about Ken wiping out the kids then. Instead of that, they could just go with Ken putting the kids in isolation and manually re-educating them before putting them back into society (Since his brainwashing doesn't work on them since they have no true memories or fondess of the past)

(Which may still have shades of Nazi-ism, but it is in line to the Japanese version. I think two of the truck drivers say that "They will be put into isolation. They must be taught, and they'll have to lose the scent of the 21st century.")

Of course, FUNi could also ignore the "moral values" issue and just list real problems that plauge the world today and Ken just wants the adults to forget about these troubled times and only remember the happier times they had when they were kids.

And I don't really see them cutting out the scene of the kids in the bar considering this is FUNi's version we're talking about.

Quotes from The Oolong Tea Scene in AESB:

Shin: What's that for? She's a newbie. Still too early for you. Never retire as Number 1.

Georgie: (sniffs the glass of Oolong Tea) This is Oolong Tea

Boo: I only love my mom.

Maso: I got a hangover.

And now a another movie for FUNi to dub.

Original: Glorious Grilled Meat Road
FUNi Title: The Grilled Steak Caper

The Noharas become fugitives after their wanted pictures being shown on the news (including Shin's being shown by Action B telling kids that if they see him, they should call the authorities). The Noharas must find the person who framed them as they meet the Mafia who would help them clear their names but then betray them. In the end everything returns to normal. As the credits roll, the Noharas check at the police station and make sure their poster is not on there and the family returns home to eat their steak dinner.

My favorite scene is the Bike chase and I would imagine Queen's "Bicycle" would play after the training wheels on Shin's bike broke off while outrunning the Agents, if FUNi gets permission to borrow the song for this movie.

or how about the cast of the Japanese movie "Ballad" make a special guest appearance on Shin-chan.

Here's a Season 3 and/or maybe a possible series finale of the FUNi dub (if FUNi decides to end the show with the third season)

Shin Who?
(ちょう嵐を呼ぶ園児だゾ) Shin has amnesia after he went flying and landing on his head while sliding down the hill on a piece of cardboard. Hiro and Mitzi tries to get him to know that their his parents. Hiro takes to make him do the Elephant Dance, Mitzi tries to make him remember his Bottom Dance. Mitzi takes Shin to the doctor to get a CAT scan or X-Ray. The Doctor said that Shin's brain got big, which makes him a genius. While at school, his friends tries to get him to remember all the good times they had. Shin goes to Nanako's apartment, but only to see that her father is there. Meanwhile at home, Mitzi keeps quoting Shin's words. Shin says that he could be living in a mansion and playing a violin. Shin goes off trying to find who and where his real parents are. Hiro and Mitzi went looking for him until they found him on the same hill he slid down losing his memory. Mitzi tells him that he's not alone and they're always here for him. Hiro tries to get him back by pulling Shin pants down causing him to trip down the hill, landing on his head again, thus he got his memory back.

And now a another movie for FUNi to dub.

Original: Otakebe! Kasukabe Yasei Oukoku
FUNi Title: Shin Chan's Wild Animal Kingdom

What if Carlos Mencia is in the movie, that will be great, he would play the main villian named Manny Transforma (aka Mamoru Shizen in the Original Japanese release) and JERO reprising his role in English. I heart Carlos Mencia!!!

FUNi Episode Segments:

Georgie, M.D. (Dr,カザマだゾ)
The Three Little Pinkies (オラたち三匹の子豚だゾ)
Sex and the Whitey (シロをレンタルするゾ)
All For Stone, Stone For All (石が気持ちを伝えるゾ)
Over the Milfers We Go! (雨にも負けず風にも負けないゾ)
Loli Sitter (オラはベビーシッターだゾ)
The Maso Duckling (お歌でお悩みだゾ)

I still go for the "Adult Empire Strikes Back" idea if that was ever done.

I'll go along with it!

I can see your point.

Wouldn't mind if they did a Twilight Zone reference in there with the kids, kinda like thinking a perfect line would be "Look, we better start searching or we may not get to the plot twist anytime soon!"

That would work quite well. I always felt the point of the film was to show how our hopes and dreams all dashed once the 21st Century came to be as we never did get that "flying car" we were promised at all that!

It would be interesting if they had the parents talk like they're in a prudish 1950's sitcom where "Double D Hockey Sticks" and other silly slang were the call of the day.

Quote:
But anyway that's one possible way they could have gone with the plot.

Hopefully they won't go into that in detail. Those guys were pretty much John and Yoko anyway and would rather have them voiced much in that respect.

True too, of course one could see this as being simular to the reducation camps of Eastern Europe during the Cold War for those that opposed the Communist regimes. It's not nearly the same as Nazi-ism, though some may think that way.

I remember that line.

Which would also work too. This decade has not be the greatest since 9-11 and other problems.

Definitely.

Noticing how this film ends with the family coming home and you have the light turn on in the house, I kinda wanted to have one more laugh before the scene fades out with Mitzi and Hiro noticing the mess inside but blame Shin for it anyway! One of those throwaway gags you can stick in since you don't have lip flapping or characters on-screen to deal with.

Another one could be "The Grilled Steak Escape" (if only because I like the two words nearly rhyming at the end, there's a restaurant out there with that for a name otherwise).

Let's Try "Shin Chan Goes Wild"

Now I want to get to the two Masae/Marcie eps (both Pre-Hima).

Aunt Marcie's Back in Town (まさえおばさんが来たゾ) - Mitzi's older sister Marcie visits the Noharas which Mitzi despises of her pranks by wearing a triceratops and a skull mask. Marcie goes to the door to scare shin when he returns homes from school, but his faceless mask scared her to death. Shin doesn't remember that he has an aunt and he wants proof by doing a rap and dance with Marcie which seems to make fun of his mom.

Aunt Marcie Returns (マサエおばさんがまた来たゾ) - Marcie returns to the Nohara house again to help Mitzi while she's pregnant with Hima after she plays Rock, Paper, Scissors with Shin. Shin's Grandfather Gin comes by and helps clean only when he and Marcie fights over the dishes. Gin, Marcie, and Shin starts cleaning the house until it becomes a wreck as they do the Action B salute.
