Post "Crayon Shin-chan" creator missing

Yoshito Usui (51), the mangaka behind the popular "Crayon Shin-chan" comic, has been missing for several days. He was reported missing by his family on September 12 after he failed to return from a hiking trip the day before.

No one, including his family and his publisher, has seen or been in contact with Usui since he left on Friday. Police in his hometown of Kasukabe, Saitama, have launched a search effort, and it has already expanded to other prefectures.

"Crayon Shin-chan" has become an iconic character around the world. The manga began serialization in 1990 in Futabasha's Weekly Manga Action, but it later moved to the magazine Manga Town. "Crayon Shin-chan" has also been on television as an anime series since 1992, with a feature-length film released every year since 1993.

Since I like Shin-chan, I hope they find him asap. Where did he go for the hiking trip?

The Yomiuri Shimbun and Mainichi Shimbun newspaper report that Usui has said on Friday morning that he was "going hiking for a day in Gunma Prefecture" north of his home by himself, as he often did.

same with the previous posters, hopefully he'll be found ASAP and most likely nothing bad had happened to him..

I hope he's OK and not dead or injured. I also hope it's not another NoriP situation...

Male Remains Found in Gunma Prefecture's Mountains
Remains not identified as Shin-chan creator Yoshito Usui yet

Male remains have been discovered on Saturday morning in the mountains of Gunma Prefecture, the same general area where Crayon Shin-chan creator Yoshito Usui was reportedly going hiking on September 11 when he went missing. Authorities have not identified the remains yet, but they told the TBS television station that the clothing on the remains resemble those of Usui.

According to Usui's family, he said he was "going hiking for a day in Gunma Prefecture" on the morning of September 11. His mobile phone was last detected in the vicinity of Karuizawa, a town about 100 kilometers (about 60 miles) northwest of his Kasukabe home, on Monday. Karuizawa is located in the mountainous eastern part of Nagano Prefecture, near the border of the equally mountainous Gunma Prefecture. In particular, Usui is said to have expressed his intent to climb the Arafune mountain, which towers 1,422 meters (4,665 feet) high at the border between Nagano and Gunma Prefectures. Authorities have been searching this area since September 12.

At 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, the authorities received a report from climbers that "there are remains below a rocky ledge."
