Toon Zone Talkback - "Shin-chan" Author Yoshito Usui (1958-2009)

Crayon Shin Chan Manga Creator Usui Missing Since Friday

Oh, dear.

I hope and pray that the police finds him alive. If he's found dead, that would be the end of Shin Chan as we know it.

This sounds bad. We can only hope that he's found alive as soon as possible.

OH NO! NOT THE CARTOON! ANYTHING BUT THE END TO OUR PRECIOUS CARTOON!

... Sorry, but that was just wide, wide open to be called on.

I hope the man is ok, for the sake of his well being and his family.

And it didn't need to be called on. At all.

Hopefully, he'll be found...This is something I always worry about with creators of long-running manga, that something might one day tragically happen to them, leaving their series unfinished. I mean, that's what happened to Cyborg 009.

Yeah but in the case of Crayon Shin Chan, it is not really a prorgressive story being told, it is more like the funnies in the newspaper. Yes they have their own storylines.

If someone makes a comment implying the value of a cartoon being greater than that of a human being's life or the worries of said human being's family, I think it's perfectly within the rights of another person to call them on that.

Anyway, that's not important here. What is important is what becomes of this news. The longer it goes with no update, the grimmer the outcome looks. It's anyone's guess what's happened at this point, but we can only hope he's found soon and safe.

No hypotesis in the article? No clue before the disappearance? I've heard that people in Japan have to work too much. Let's hope he just escaped for a while to take a break.

"Update: The Yomiuri Shimbun and Mainichi Shimbun newspaper report that Usui has said on Friday morning that he was "going hiking for a day in Gunma Prefecture" north of his home by himself, as he often did. When he did not return that night, his wife contacted the authorities on Saturday. His family called his mobile phone, but the calls went unanswered."

^ That sounds not very good. Hopefully he's ok =( I feel really bad for his poor wife, she must be really worried sick.

The facts surounding his disappearence strongly suggest that Usui-san never intended to be gone this long. So what would cause him to not return from one of his routine hikes?

I think one of the more likely possibilities is that he got hurt in an accident and cannot contact anyone (maybe his cell phone was damaged in the process). I doubt he was attacked by anyone, since that is very rare in Japan.

I still think there is a very good chance Usui-san will come out of this alive if the police can find him within the next 72 hours. After that, the situation could be very grim if they still have no idea where he is.

That's so sad. He's already been missing for four or five days and that's not a good sign at all. I hope that he'll be found alive and well soon so that his family and friends won't be so worried and scared for him.

Usui is like the Charles Schultz we once knew (in the USA).

Shin Chan is like Snoopy.

Misae (Mitzi) is like Charlie Brown.

Kazama (Georgie) is like Linus.

Nene (Penny) is like Lucy.

Boo is like Pigpen.

Shiro is probably like Woodstock.

I know my question is a off-topic, but why can't Peanuts have an anime adaptation?

God, I hope he's safe and sound.
And this better not turn out to be like Noriko Sakai's case. Girl went missing for days, then turns out to be wanted by the police for drug charges. Too many drug related celebrity arrests in Japan these days.

Um. Only problem with that is AT LEAST she's alive. Her career destroyed BUT alive. In this case his mysterious disappearance could lead to him being kidnapped or dead so honestly I HOPING that there is so logical explanation to all of this.

I hope he is found. Though given how long it has been now he might now be found alive. Still I hope for the best.

Ah, I actually didn't take the opening post like that...

Huh, so he went for a hike in the mountains? Hopefully he's fine...
