To answer my comments, actually I was dishonest when I wrote that I have no comments about this year’s Miss Universe competition. I have to say that I think Miss Venezuela was the most elegant and beautiful on stage during the top 5. She indeed outshined the other girls even though they were all gorgeous. When I saw her several times during the rehearsals, or crossing her paths in the hallways, I would never have thought she would win, but when I saw her on stage that night, it had to be her. And it’s kind of cool to achieve a back-to-back victory; I wish it would have happened to Japan last year! But you know what?… Hiroko is better off this way; being only in the top 15, she has signed a lucrative contract with a television broadcaster as a sportscaster and gets great fees for making appearances in Japan . Winning Miss Universe does not necessary bring you a career, money, happiness or fame. Look at what happened to Riyo since she won - none of this. Look at the numbers and you will see it clearly. Emiri, for example, did not place and Riyo Mori won, but if you google the names “Emiri Miyasaka” and “Riyo Mori”, you find these results:

Riyo (森 理世) has 194,000 pages versus Emiri (宮坂 絵美里) who has 611,00 pages! These are worldwide results.

In Japan, Riyo has 203,00 pages and Emiri (宮坂 絵美里) has an astonishing 1,080,000 pages - over 1 million pages! And Kurara Chibana (知花 くらら) has 785,000 pages!! Now who do you think are the real winners at the end? Numbers in your own country bring you endorsement deals and recognition at the end, and this is the result that matters to me at the end and for my girls, trust me.

The truth is that poor Riyo has been (and still is) rejected by the Japanese people since the moment she won, and the end result is that she disappeared from the news. Instead, Emiri is embraced by her people. What do you think is best? Winning a big title but hearing that people of your own country feel that you did not deserve it, or coming back to your country and being loved and celebrated? I choose the latter option!

Poor girl…. Riyo came back after one year in NYC with zero money, no fame, and she asked me if she could live in my house again. We paid her a VERY high salary in order for her to survive. But no endorsements were offered to her. I worked like crazy to get deals for her but we could not deliver anything except the Lexus deal because Kurara was kind to include her in her existing deal. Everywhere we went, it was like “no thank you”…. and I felt deeply responsible for her situation. Instead, Kurara who did not win, has 7 commercial deals in place, including Maybelline worldwide, her own TV show (she left today for Austria to film for 2 weeks), was signed as UN Ambassador, and she graces the cover of “Domani”, a top-fashion-magazine each month since 2006. Again, better off not winning at the end. Also you asked me and Emiri if we are disappointed or defeated, well honestly NO.

I was not disappointed that Emiri did not place because it would have jeopardized her lucrative contracts should she have won. The best scenario from the beginning is not to place because it is risk-free. This is why i did not want to comment because I knew I would open a can of worms! But hey..as you wrote, people visit my blog because they like to read what i have to say at the end, and I am known for having no filter, like it or hate it.

After the Miss Universe show was over, I was going to the celebration ball when I met Osmel in the lobby, we jumped and hugged, then he told me to follow him, also I went to celebrate with Osmel and all the Venezuelan team in the VIP lounge at the Atlantis night Club with my gorgeous team, Erica, Milly, Andrea, Claudia and Tina. I will post some pictures as soon as I get them from Oscar Petit my reporter friend and Nicolas Felizola both with us partying. I never drank so much champagne and we all danced her heads off until almost 5 am!

Talking about not winning being the best scenario…. I met Ada, Miss DR in Miami at the baggage claim, she was wearing very minimal make-up and a sleek pony tail. Also wearing casual clothes that showed her incredible body line, and let me tell you this young woman is spectacular! I think that she is one of the most beautiful delegates I have ever met since I started. As Amelia Vega and Veruska Miss Venezuela in 1998 in Hawaii. We spoke with Ada a little while and I told her that I would work on getting her to model in Tokyo. To me she is a younger version of Tyra Banks. I told her that she can get plenty of work in Japan if she wants. I told Ada that I would talk to Magali and actually I need to follow up soon.

I have a lot of respect for all the National Directors with whom I have worked with for years. They are all unique individuals, and they all work very hard to make their country proud, like i do. Actually mine is France but Japan is my home, my host and a country which has given me a huge chance since the past 13 years. Since I was a little girl, I always dream to visit Japan, and when the chance to live in Tokyo came up, I was thrilled. I met countless, well… thousands of young Japanese girls and each of them is a temple, a treasure, and I feel love for each of them even though I am known for being very severe during my trainings.

Yesterday I was at the office, and Satomi Ogawa, Miss Japan 1999 was there and shooting with NTV. I looked at her while she was recording and felt so fortunate to still work with unique and talented winners like her. Satomi after competing in Hawaii, worked as Miss Japan for a year with me, then she studied opera in Japan, Germany, Austria and Italy. After 10 years she came back into my life and told me: “Can you take care of me again please?”…..sweet! Satomi signed an exclusive contract with CHANEL in Japan as one of the 5 artists of the year. She is CHOPARD brand Ambassador as well. Also, beautiful Hiroko came by yesterday while I was having my highlights done at Toni&Guy in Harajuku and she brought me a huge bouquet of red roses sent by her sweet mom. Hiroko was deeply involved in training Emiri with me. We spoke for 2 hours, she is so beautiful right now, I wish she could compete next year sincerely. But better having her as my baby then of one of my delegates…!

poor riyo.. i had heard about this before.. i have a friend who is japanese and she said that some people in japan think riyo is not very represtentative of japanese women.. so sad for riyo, i loved her.

A concrete jungle, Manhattan, the very heart and soul of New York City is by far a tough environment to survive. New York City itself, minus the 4 boroughs that comprise Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and Staten Island or what is Manhattan that is left in the conurbation, is very competitive, scary, dreadful city. Everything is expensive in Manhattan particularly rent except for common grocery items and Chinese take out outlets that dominate its fringes. If you are not competitive enough, and have no means of income, meaning you have no real marketable set of skills to compete, you could hardly survive Manhattan lifestyle. It's a city widely known for its attractions as that of a magnet but it's likened to a heavenly euphoria that can delude the uninitiated. The city, populated by close to 9M during daytime, Manhattanites and transients included, is very impersonal due to its transient population. Less than 3M people live permanently in the city and most of the remaining millions are either residents of the nearby boroughs or the tri-states New York, Connecticut, Massachusets. Residents in the surrounding states like NJersey and those in the southwest, southeast and south of NYC come to Manhattan to work during the day and leave the island to go back home in the afternoon. Hence only people of marketable qualifications can find productive employment. Gainfuly employed individuals have to shell out from a low of 27% to a high of 44% from their earnings for taxable income. Harsh!

It's either you're made, hence earn big bucks in Manhattan or if you don't, come home in rags when you don't succeed. Im sorry for Riyo after hearing about all this. Perhaps she had tried so hard but the glitzy advertising houses along Madison and the trendy boutiques lining 5th Ave must have shunned her presence. If such was true, the heart and soul of the world's media industry have failed to carve a niche to market her win, and not even mogul Trump's NYC Empire including the MUO can redeem her sagging fortunes in a city that truly never sleeps.

Personally, I think Riyo is the symbol of "Beauty with Brandname". If there is no Brand wearing, that's nothing interesting at all. She looks very plain and nothing attractive except her ND Brand promotion. I can't accept the result in that year because she couldn't prove what real beauty in her soul is.

Inez is very contradictive. What's the point to send a delegate if you don't want her to place? Those contracts are clearly made because of beauties in this case which Riyo doesn't own.

She is really telling the truth despite the fact that it may sadden Riyo for this entry. I find it as another form of whining. It is so ridiculous when you groom, polish, and send a delegate with hundred thousands dolars but ended up not wanting her to make the cut. Both Kurara and Hiroko made the cut. So what is the point "missing the cut = risk free"? It's all about beauty!

i don't know where the hate for ines' comments is coming from. she is just being HONEST about riyo.
she has both the numbers and the personal experience to back her claims. no one can dispute that.

as far as i know, riyo may have won the title, but she is far from being the next great japanese model,
at least not in the japanese market. if you are exposed to the japanese culture like i do, you'll bet that kurara, or even
the current miss japan, has a better chance in penetrating the highly competitive japanese entertainment
or modeling industry than her.

i do agree with you that japan doesn't care about miss universe. that is exactly why riyo is failing to get
lucrative contracts. winning the title does not guarantee you a ticket to stardom in japan.

It's really sad. She's not my fave Miss Universe, but I do admire Riyo's positive attitude and outlook in life. Post Miss U life has been tough for her, but I'm sure with her never-say-die spirit and tenacity, she'll overcome these things. And I don't really believe that Riyo is that poor; I mean she may not have the amount of deals in the same level as Kurara (Chibana has the advantage, being the first Japanese to enter the Top 2, and she has the connections being related to the Japanese Royal family), but I do believe there are things still in store for Riyo in the long run.
