Description:
Laurent Gaffié has discovered a vulnerability in Microsoft Windows, which can be exploited by malicious people to potentially compromise a vulnerable system.

The vulnerability is caused due to an array indexing error in the srv2.sys kernel driver. This can be exploited to dereference out-of-bounds memory via a specially crafted SMB packet.

Successful exploitation may allow execution of arbitrary code.

The vulnerability is confirmed in a fully patched Windows Vista Enterprise SP2 and reported in Windows Server 2008. Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems and Windows Server 2008 R2 for Itanium-based Systems are reportedly not affected.
