Default My cool hair quest ~

Okay, so here's the deal,

I've been wanting to do something a little more drastic with my hair for quite a while, but I never really seriously considered anything. Lately while browsing the net, I've been inspired and I've decided that I'd really like dye my currently darkish hair blonde, with pastel pink streaks.
Here are some pictures that show what I'm more or less aiming for:
(Kan Miyoun and Kaoru Watanabe <3<3)

I hail from England, and I don't really know of any dye brands that accomodate for the more unusual colours, but I've heard of this stuff called Special Effects with a shade called 'Cupcake Pink' from the US, which I plan to invest in if I can find some place that sells it on the net.

I'm 18 at the moment, so I figure if I'm going to do this, it'd better be now while I can still probably pull it off.

My only hindrances are:

I have perma-dyed my hair a couple times in the last few years, and although it's more or less faded out, I don't know whether this is going to mess with the bleach and make me ginger or something instead of the platinum blonde I want.

I have about...an inch or so, I guess, of weak hair at the tips. (From straightening out, brushing and all the rest of it) and although the obvious remedy would be cutting it off, it kinda pains me to take away from the length I've acheived after growing it out for a year after getting a boyish cut.

Ideally, If I'm going to do it, I want it to be during the summer break which is coming up in a month or two, so I have time to compensate if anything goes horribly wrong.

In the past, I've seen people with root regrowth from platinum blonde or jet black hair and winced at how awful it looks. So I guess I'm nervous at the commitment to the colour.

Here's a picture of my hair colour as it currently is (although this picture was taken in around december before I started toying with gyaru style..XD)

(It looks a tiny bit darker in this picture than real life because of poor lighting etc)
Ignore my scribbles.

So, the discussion here is;

What do you think?
Do you expect the bleaching will go horribly wrong?
Any advice or methods?
Do you have your own cool hair quest?

I think it'll look really cute!

When you bleach it, you'll most likely need a toner, which will make your hair look platinum, not yellow. You can get them at most beaty stores.

I don't really recommend Manic Panic, I use their Hot Hot Pink currently, and the staying power is not very good. I've heard alot of good things about Special Effects (I've ordered a blue and a purple one ), one website from the UK which stocks it is BeeUnique. I haven't ordered from them, because shipping to NZ was rediculous, but if you want a UK site, it looks good. They have a customer gallery too, so you can have a look at what sort of shades to expect.

I would suggest you get your hair trimmed, cause split ends etc will look bad. If you're really paranoid about screwing up the bleaching, then maybe you should get it done at a salon. It might take more than one bleaching to get your hair from brown to platinum, so you'll most likely have to wait a week or so between bleachings so you don't kill your hair.

Whe you put the streaks in, you'll want to use foils so the dye doesn't get from the streaks onto the rest of your hair. You can buy foils, or chop up aluminum foil (cheaper, and works perfectly fine).

If there's anything you need help with, just ask and I'll try to help

And my hair quest... very dark brown, with bright blue in it, to replace the darkish brown and pink I currently have

@ Entourage Hehe thanks.
I'm not Japanese but I do speak the language.

@CatterpillarGirl Thanks for the advice! Yeah I was kinda worried about absoluly destroying my hair by having to bleach it multiple times, guess it can't be helped though >_< and I guess I'll have to get the trim aswell~
Thankyou for the link!

@ pinkhaireddreamboy Oooh, our quests ARE similar. XD We must support each other in this time of need for cool pink hair.
Thankyou for the link, was helpful looking at the posts!

Also I've remembered some pictures I've had where the hair is more or less exactly how I'd want it, so I'll take off random pink-haired lady and chuck them up in a sec.

^ omgoshhh! i love this hair: http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/9...tykaorulp7.png
i think itd look really nice on you!

if youve never dyed your hair before (or maybe only a few times) then id suggest going to a salon to do the whole bleaching and pink coloring. but if you have pretty damaged and frequently dyed hair (like me) then do it yourself because at a salon they might give you reallly weak colors as to not damage your hair more or just refuse to do it altogether and try to talk you into something else. this happened to me before and i paid $80 (and sat through four hours) for coloring that i didnt even ask for and it washed out in.. two days i think?

well just to stick in a little alternative option here...

if you didn't want to go so permanent or just can't go full coloured because of work/ school.

Lolita Kisama has coloured hair pieces which you clip in.

Link: https://www.lolita-kisama.com/shop/i...?cPath=164_168

Also and Australian Hair company called Headlines Hair Pieces

Link: http://www.headlineshairpieces.com.a...headlines.html

also I know i may be getting a tad off topic (sorry).... but hence my curiosity with hair pieces and such has anyone ever tried the jessica simpson hair pieces Hair-do?

xx

Amy

i absolutely loved to dye my hair ive had it so many colors but let me tell you. after pink. never.ever.again. will i dye my hair.i looked at your pic and we have about the same hair color so let me tell you my story. i bleached my hair out several times but with dark hair you can almost never get it platinum which is a key in having that really nice bubble gum pink you are looking for like the girl in the 2nd pic. so after hours and hours of bleaching my head was burned and most of the hair in the front of my head aka my bangs had FALLEN OUT! thats right i was just bald in the front and i looked like a freak! so finally i applied the manic panic cotton candy pink and...my hair barely accepted the color. i was so disappointed it was only KIND of pink in the front and this ugly pinkish blondish vomit color in the back. you see if you dye your hair too much it becomes more and more dry and that dryness just sucks up the color and it doesnt show up. so i ended up only having it like that for about a week and then i dyed it back because my hair looked disgusting. it was difficult to get back to its original color and my hair came out in handfuls when i showered and i could barely even run a comb through !it was over all a bad experience. this was all about 9 months ago by the way and my hair is STILL suffering from the traumatic experience. BUT if you really want to do it some tips i might offer: 1) DONT DO IT BY YOURSELF i know it sounds much cheaper and more fun but dont do it. bleaching hair is very difficult to master on your own and you have to know where to bleach first depending on the heat areas on your scalp. 2) if you decide to do if by yourself regardless of what i say, since you have dark hair i suggest using a blue toner bleach like loreal quick blue. this keeps the hair from turning that nasty orangey red color when stripping the color out. 3) after you have it dyed make sure you deep condition it EVERY day keep hairspray and gel away from your hair as well as straighteners and curlers the hair will already be damaged and frail dont make it worse! 4) you can just get it professionally done (atleast the bleaching part) i know its expensive but dont you wonder how all the asian jrockers with jet black hair get these crazy colors? they have professionals doing it for them constantly. the hair salon people know how to bleach your hair so it is even, with minimal damage 5) be prepared for scabby dandruff i know! its gross! but because the bleach is so strong it often burns most of your scalp while its in. make sure you get yourself some head and shoulders or something! 6) if you want to keep the color vivid keep it up every 1-2 weeks you should retouch the color as it will fade afer a few washes 7)you can just get a wig or an attachment of the color you want 8) do highlights! bleaching small strips of hair is much easier to dye and retouch and if it absolutely damages your hair well, atleast its not your whole head! 9) DO A STRAND TEST. take a little piece of hair in the back and take a couple hours to bleach out all the color as if you were going to dye it pink. then keep it like that for a few days so you can see how the hair quality is after an intense beaching and decide if you want your whole head that way. 10)just keep in mind dying dark hair is VERY difficult and often doesnt turn out the way you expected! i hope this helped in some way i am not trying to discourage your hopes i just want to make sure you know every aspect! i wish i had known before i dyed my hair! anyway good luck with your hair quest!
