BOULDER, Colo. (Aug. 21) - Investigators say a woman they believed might have been killed in 1954 and found along a Boulder creek actually has been living in Australia for the last 46 years.
The Boulder County sheriff's office announced Thursday the woman they thought was the most likely candidate for Boulder's infamous "Jane Doe" murder case was located last week.

Alive, and in Australia
Colorado investigators thought they knew at least one thing about an infamous cold case more than 50 years old: the victim's name. But they were wrong. Katharine Farrand Dyer, shown here in a photo believed to be taken in 1949, has been living in Australia for more than 40 years.

They found her after "a bit of dumb luck" through an Internet contact in Queensland, Australia.
Investigators thought Katharine Ferrand Dyer, now 84, might have been the victim in the unsolved homicide.
The author of a book about the case, scheduled to be released in September, contacted Dyer's siblings in the U.S., the News of Australia reported. The relatives said Dyer left Colorado for "personal reasons."
She moved to California and Hawaii before settling in Australia.
The sheriff's office says they're relieved Dyer is alive but discouraged that they're "back to square one" with their investigation.
The sheriff's office reopened the "Jane Doe" murder case in 2004.

Famous Cold Cases
John and Elizabeth Calvert owned a successful business and lived part-time on a yacht. But they haven't been seen since last March, when they went to meet with an accountant after noticing money appeared to be missing from their business. Here, the couple appears in 2006. What was that lady running from? Personal reasons don't really explain her actions. Apparently they didn't contact her family or anyone else that knows her to find out that she is alive.

Now, I'm a native "Boulderite", but leave it to the Boulder Police to mess up a case for this many years. It's wonderful that the woman they thought was murdered over 40 years ago is found alive, but what do they do now? Someone was found dead and now they know it's not her but they still don't know who it is??????? Someone needs to revamp the whole department and start new. Too many cracks in the "system" if you ask me.

Perhaps it was a so called solved case or identified to make one of our district attorneys look good. Look at how many are solved and then we find out that the wrong man was convicted

AT LEAST, THIS PART OF THE CRIME WAS SOLVED BUT, WHO'S THE "JANE DOE" NOW SUPPOSE TO BE. IT TOOK THIS LONG TO FIND OUT THIS WOAMN IS STILL ALIVE, WHY DIDN'T SHE LET THEM KNOW THAT? I'M SURE SHE SAW ON TV OR HEARD ON RADIO, ABOUT HER OWN DEATH. NOW, THAT'S A MYSTERY TOO, WHY DID SHE WAIT SO LONG? WILL THEY FIND OUT WHO THE OTHER WOMAN IS? I HOPE,IN THE NEXT 40 YEARS~~~~~~~~~

AMONRA1220....When referring to people and attempting to shorten the words they are, the correct spelling is they're, not their (which refers to ownership). Example; their house, their car, etc. You wouldn't be a member of the KKK, would you? I heard that if you put a bunch of them together, you could not get a good half-wit. Also, it is not necessary to use all capital letters, that is an indication you are shouting. Please, use lower case letters, you're not saying anything important enough to shout about.

Why are they wasting resources and time on a missing person case from the 50's?! With the shortage of law enforcement and funds as it is, I think they should get their priorities straight and use common sense and look for missing people (especially children!!!) from more recent time, such as within the last decade or so. I'm not saying that ANY missing person case should be dismissed, just that more recent cases have a better chance of being found (hopefully alive) and solved.

ODDS ARE IF YOUR BLACK YOU DID IT---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------I think you better check your sources or better yet do some actual research instead of listening to that bullshit you've been listening to over the years! You need to lower the numbers for blacks and increase the numbers for whites. And don't go by what you hear about in the news I suggest you go and get the real numbers from the source.

The old bag could have at the least notified the Boulder Co Sheriff's office that she was alive instead of forcing them to spend thousand of dollars in investigation. Boulder Co Sheriff needs to close the case as unsolved, save money and forget about.
