Discount retailer Dollar General Corp, backed by powerful private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co, filed for an initial public offering of up to $750 million on Thursday, according to a regulatory filing. It could be one of the largest IPOs of the year and among the biggest exits through a public stock offering by a private equity firm since the credit crunch sapped investor appetite for new offerings. The IPO market has been improving since the spring, as stock markets have rallied.

Linville Enterprises Golf plans to build a bowling alley, convenience store and McDonald's and to sell lots to finance the $1 million project.

Discount retailer Dollar General late this afternoon filed for its IPO , with a $750 million target and nine listed underwriters (including KKR — so much for worries that it was trying to dis-intermediate Wall Street). We've been expecting this filing for a while, but that doesn't diminish its importance. Dollar General is a charter member of the buyout boom, getting taken private just 25 months ago by KKR for $7.2 billion.
