Sleep walking could be why she awoke and slipped through the bars that were perhaps not attached securely.. I would prefer to think of this happening rather than someone tossing her out of it! My oldest son was a sleepwalker at that age. one night I found him in my closet walking into the wall... had no clue at all where he was and he stayed asleep with his eyes open until I guided him back to his room and his bed.. weird.. but true.. so anything is possible! I used to put a GATE at the top of my stairs because I was afraid he would do it again and fall down the stairs...

I don't know how the name Destiny relates to this story unless she was destined to fall out of a window. As for this always happening in the ghetto, maybe the bonehead who said that forgot about Eric Claptons son who also fell, but died & I am SURE not out a some window in a ghetto. There are incidents that happen to kids everywhere because screens are loose or whatever the case is. Kids have accidents, we ALL do. She's lucky to have survived, regardless of her address, or race. Sheesh.

i'm not saying anything bad about the family but i do think they need to look into how the safety device was diabled to allow this to happen....for those who wonder what a child was doing up at that hour i offer a few suggestions. ! maybe she had to go to the bathroom and heard something outside and got curious( how she fell is a mystery that may never be explained) 2. that neighborhood can be loud at that time of night sometimes with the youth and young adults getting together and talking, laughing and playing music..not to mention the police sirens of a big city.

why does everyone jump to conclusions despite knowing almost nothing about this? is it possible that her parents are irresponsible? yes, definitely - is it also possible that they don't stay up all night making sure their kids don't jump out windows? yes - maybe she woke up in the middle of the night and walked around, i don't know, but i'm not going to make any assumptions about her parents
