Many people in the media like to fluff the Red Sox Yankees rivalry as the greatest in sports.

While I don’t believe that to be true (rivalries tend to flourish more in sports where you’re allowed to hit people), I would wager that it’s probably the most enduring in baseball.

As good as the rivalry is, all the media attention sidesteps the most important question: Which team has the hottest wives and girlfriends?

Red Sox Wives and Girlfriends

Erica is a Penthouse Pet and Red Sox pitcher Clay Buchholz’s girlfriend.

Shonda is Curt Schilling’s wife. She spends a lot of her time working for the SHADE Foundation, a charity that she started to assist those with melanoma.

Tiffany is David Ortiz’s wife — in case you couldn’t tell by the picture. Or her last name.

Tomayo is Dice-K Matsuzaka’s wife. She gets bonus points for giving birth in time for Dice-K to make the season-opening trip to Japan in 2008.

Kelli is Dustin Pedroia’s wife. Given the little guy’s propensity to mouth off and make a fool of himself in public, she must be astoundingly patient.

Enza had a much-publicized relationship with Ben Affleck in 2004, but she is now Kevin Youkilis’ fiancee.

Kelsey is Jacoby Ellsbury’s girlfriend & college sweetheart.

Ashley is closer Jonathan Papelbon’s wife. I bet she’s enjoying his new contract, too.

Juliana is Manny Ramirez’s wife. They live in Pembroke Pines, Florida with their 3 sons.

Yankees Wives and Girlfriends

Alex Rodriguez wants his daughter to marry Andy Pettite, but Laura might have something to say about that.

Mrs. Pettitte spent some time in the spotlight recently when she testified that Andy told her about Roger Clemens’ steroid use.

Cynthia is Alex Rodriguez’s wife.

Alright, so Hideki Matsui doesn’t have a wife. But this was one of the best pranks in recent memory, so it’s worthy of the list.

Matsui held a press conference to announce his engagement to a mystery bride. He said he didn’t have a photograph, so he brought this drawing resembling a police sketch. Apparently it was to win a bet he made with Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu regarding who would get married first.

Nice work, Hideki. I salute you.

Allison is a shooting guard at USC, where she met pitcher Ian Kennedy in 2001. They were married in October of 2008, a date that caused some conflict after Kennedy was called up to the Yankees and ended up playing October baseball.

Kristian is Jason Giambi’s wife. They were married in 2002, two years after Giambi won the MVP, and one before his life fell apart when FBI Investigators named him in the BALCO scandal.

Kim married Yankees manager Joe Girardi in 1990, back when he was playing for the Cubs. The couple has three kids together.

Michelle is Johnny Damon’s second wife. They were married on December 30, 2004, and currently live in Windermere, Florida. When Damon left the Red Sox for the Yankees, he spurred one of the best t-shirt slogans in recent memory. Looks like Jesus. Throws like Mary. Acts like Judas. I’m not sure that one will be beaten. Ever.

Laura is Jorge Posada’s wife. She is a former attorney and model, though she now spends her time working for the Posada Foundation, which she co-founded with her husband. The Posada Foundation provides assistance to children who suffer from Craniosynostosis, which their son was born with.

Shayla is Kyle Farnsworth’s fiancee. They became engaged during Christmas 2007, and plan on marrying in December of 2008.
