SANTA CLARA, Calif. (Aug. 10) -- Two dozen people were stranded on a roller coaster ride for up to four hours on Monday, officials said.
Rescue crews removed the last of 24 people trapped on the disabled Invertigo Roller Coaster at the Great America Theme Park just before 6 p.m. Monday, San Jose Fire Capt. Scott Kouns said.

"It was frightening. It was scary," 14-year-old Dennis Espinoza, of San Lorenzo, told the Mercury News newspaper in San Jose, Calif. "We thought we were going to die."
The riders had be lowered one at a time into buckets at the end of aerial ladders after the roller coaster came to a stop shortly before 2 p.m. Monday.
All of the passengers were strapped into the ride and were right side up as they awaited being taken off the ride.
Authorities said there were no injuries.

Two monorails collided July 5 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., killing one driver. The monorails, like the one seen here, transport visitors within the park. Officials said no guests were seriously injured. Flip through this gallery for a look at other accidents at theme parks.

we were just there on saturday nite..and they stopped the ride at 9:15 pm and said "technical difficulties", they proceeded to load the coaster and onload again in another 15 minutes and then tell the riders " technical difficulties" again..they finally told the people in line waiting for at least 1 hour the INTERTIGO was now closed for "technical difficulites"..and now this...The park i do believe is under new management (new owners)??? but rides are handlied by one company, food/retaurants are handled by another who uses kids with VISA'S and they dont speak english very well....so all in all not sure who is taking care of the maintence issues these days..

Nobody was upside down. The coaster was stopped. All people were securely strapped in a upright seated position. The fire department was there to help. Just how did the little moron think he was going to die. If you think that's scary, try rideaccidents.com....you'll think twice about visiting amusement parks. Large travelling carnivals are the safest. Read the signs, pay attention to the ride operators, don't run onto or out of any ride, and DO NOT remove safety harnesses before ride stops.

UserJoe1020 03:59 PMAug 11 2009 It seems that AT LEAST once a year somone is thrown and impaled on a fence, looses their foot, or is cut up or killed somehow on these rides. I used to go on them, but no way in hell would i let my kids on one now!! The big theme park rides are even worse than the small carnival ones!So ONE or TWO people get injured or killed out of 100 MILLION that ride them and you refuse to allow your kids to ride them? Can you say PARANOID?
