Underwear uproar in Japan

Sometimes experimentation in fashion goes so right. And sometimes you get this: Japan's finalist in the Miss Universe contest wearing a ‘modern' interpretation of the kimono – that's made of leather and cut to expose her pink underwear. Emiri Miyasaka has caused uproar amongst the nation for a crass, sleazy and inappropriate representation of Japanese beauty. And whilst there are some supporters for the 25-year-old – ‘It's the conservatives and fashion dinosaurs who are criticising her costume, meanwhile the fashionistas love it' – such has been the furore that she's switched to a more modest ensemble and donated it to Lady GaGa's world tour. OK, we made that last bit up. But we reckon she'd like it...
