Groups To Mark Anniversary Of Hiroshima Bombing
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) ―
A number of religious and peace groups will gather at a Ft. Lauderdale church this week to mark the 64th anniversary of the use of atomic weapons in Japan.
Members of Miami for Peace, Pax Christi USA and Soka Gakkai International will honor those who died in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki this Friday at St. Maurice Catholic Church, located at 2851 Stirling Road in Ft. Lauderdale. The ceremonies will be a blend of Catholic, Buddhist and Quaker spiritual elements.
August 6, 1945, the crew of the Enola Gay dropped an atomic bomb known as Little Boy on the city of Hiroshima at 8:15 a.m. Three days later an atomic bomb nicknamed Fat Man was dropped on Nagasaki.
Traditionally peace groups all over the world have gathered on August 6 to remember the atomic attacks on Japan and call for the end of all nuclear weapons.
