WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today announced that the Santa Ana Police Department will receive a $6.7 million investment from the U.S. Department of Justice through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  The funding, provided through the DOJ's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program, will be used to add and retain law enforcement officers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today introduced groundbreaking legislation that will help encourage and expand international education and foreign language programs in our schools.  The U.S. and the World Education Act would require the Deputy Assistant Secretary for International and Foreign Language Education to provide funding for educational programs that promote international enrichment for elementary and secondary school students and their teachers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) today issued the following statement regarding the shooting death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas.  Earlier today, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that Mr. Rosas was killed while tracking suspected aliens or gun smugglers in Southern California:

"I am saddened to hear of the death of Border Patrol Agent Robert Rosas, who was killed while on duty in the San Diego Sector of the U.S.-Mexico border.  My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr. Rosas' family, and to all of our Border Patrol agents who put their lives on the line to secure America's borders.  I hope the individuals responsible for this violence are brought to justice swiftly with the cooperation of both U.S. and Mexican officials.  This tragedy underscores the dangers we face as we find new ways to combat the drug violence in Mexico."
