「切複」は、ステンシルという媒体を褒め称えるアートショウ。ストリートアート の屋内ショーケース。二人のアーティストが行う東京での都市型アウトドアイノベーションの前奏曲。切複は「切る」と「複写する」を合わせた言葉で、様々なイメージの複製を素早く簡単に作り出すステンシルプロセスのこと。
ステンシルを使えば、お望みのイメージの明快な絵を創ることができる。カットアウトを使って表面をペイントし、背景の上にその形を残す。最近、ステンシルは都市型ストリートアートとして勢いを増している。ストリートアーティストは、熟練したブルジョアアートに対抗してこの媒体を選び始めている。
切複アートショウは、新宿のイレギュラー・リズム・アサイラムにて、来る2月9日に最初の一撃をかまし、今年の2月20日まで行われる。

SEPPUKU is an art show that celebrates the medium of stenciling, it is an indoor showcase of street art designs as a prelude to urban outdoor innovation in Tokyo by an artist duo. Seppuku- is a Japanese word for "cut" and "copy" it is the term used for the process of stenciling that aims to reproduce multiple copies of images in a fast and easy manner.
Stencils are used to create sharp-edged paintings of the desired image, by applying paint on the surface with the cut-out, leaving a painting of that shape on the underlying surface. Recently, stenciling has gained momentum as an urban street art and street artists have begun to co-opt the medium as a reaction against the skillfully bourgeois practices in art.
Seppuku art show will have its first strike this coming February 9, and will run until February 20 of this year at Irregular Rhythm Asylum (IRA) in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
