As a hiker and climber since I was a young man I can tell you this, these people were unprepared as is the usual case with mountain and extreme weather cases. These people had no business being on that mountain if they died the way authorities have portrayed it. You must be prepared for extreme weather all the way to forest fires and everything in between. Don't think you can do it just because you watched Grizzly Adams as a child. It takes a great deal of training. I pray for the dead and the families. The mountain gives, and the mountain takes. Do not disrespect that ever.

Obama sent them up to meet his early and of course deceased teacher Jim Jones since they believed he was their messiah.. Now of course Obummer....ooops... Obama of course took lessens and he is the one who is preparing ship canned cyanide laced kool ade nationwide to all his supporters so he can take them with him when his popularity falls below that of Bushy.... And that is expected in early to mid 2010. So be ready for your canned freedom if your messiah is Obama the Kenyan imigrant who will go down in history as taking a nation for a ride and to hell......stupid people to follow him.

Well they have my sympathy. I'm sure neither they nor their families wanted this to turn out badly.

There is more to this story than we're reading ere - has to be, because this doesn't add up. It says the temps were in the mid-40's, but are normally low 50's, so just a few degrees different. No, to be cold is one things, wet is one thing, but for sure cold and wet can be deadly. Still 8 of the 10 came from the same group , identified as a tour group. Standing shelters are on the mountain. It's a very strange situation. I have to wonder if these were a group of young kids or special needs type people. Taking away back country skiers or boarders that get caught up in avalanches, I doubt we lose 8 climbers/hikers a year in Colorado due to weather. I agree and disagree with some other posts. Calling them 'climbers' is a bit of a reach, but it's not the elevation of a mountain that makes it this or that. It's pitch, terrain, etc. Also, I think we sometimes forget Japan has very cold conditions. They have hosted the Winter Olympics twice. And mountains that are closely exposed to the o...

Why should you consider crying unless you're a relative or close friend? Seems like a much better way to go: challenging the world's elements and your self, then from a drug over dose, or strangling while doing your self in an asian hotel. There's 700 or 800,000 of us that go every day; I'd rather read about more deaths like this then the indulgences of our icons and brutal fates of war hero's.

DO NOT EXPECT ME TO CRY..IF YOU DIE DOING WHAT YOU DREAMED AND HIGHLY PAID FOR..MAY YOUR DEATH TASTE LIKE GLORY..THESE PEOPLE WHO THINK THAT CLIMBING WHATEVER MOUNTAIN ON THIS PLANET MAY BE THE HIGHEST..IS A TRIUMP OVER THE COMMON MAN..AND THEY HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO WASTE OVER THE THRILL AND THE STUPIDITY OF THINKING THEY HAVE CONQUER ...ARE NOT THAT MUCH OF A LOSS..EVERYDAY CHILDREN, WOMEN AND MEN..FIGHT TO LIVE ONE MORE DAY WITH CANCER, ETC..THEY DIE..AND NO ONE KNOWS..BUT THESE IDIOTS HAD LIFE..AND HEALTH..AND THEY RISK IT OVER WHAT...GOOD RIDDANCE!...AND ADIOS!
