Man Dies in Madonna Stage Collapse

A tragic accident in a concert venue has caused Madonna to cancel Sunday's appearance in the South of France. WENN reports that a worker was crushed to death Thursday afternoon when technicians at Marseilles Stade Velodrome were caught under a collapsed stage.

Authorities have confirmed that one man was killed in the accident, and seven other workers are being treated for injuries. There is no word on what might have caused the accident, or the condition of the injured technicians.

"I am devastated to have just received this tragic news," the singer said in a statement through her spokesperson Liz Rosenberg. "My prayers go out to those who were injured and their families along with my deepest sympathy to all those affected by this heartbreaking news."

There is now a barricade restricting access to the area, and WENN confirms that Madonna will not be performing there this weekend. The concert was part of the European leg of her Sticky and Sweet tour.
