Who me? New research shows dog can read nonverbal human communication, like pointing gestures and head tilting, as well as 2-year-olds.

I don't know what the age of the dog has to do with it, really. I "sign" to my 17 year old Pug now because he's practically deaf, & he understands my gestures to "be quiet", "go outside" or "come here". I didn't have to employ this technique before he went deaf with age, so it wasn't learned when he was younger, at least not from me- as he was a rescue at age 7.

if u had owned a pig, rooster or a goat, u would realize how smart and loving they are also! why is it ok to eat them and not cats or dogs, who says what animal is a pet and what is food? our government or culture? in africa people eat monkeys in asia they eat cats and dogs along with everything that moves or crawls. humans were meant to be vegetarians, u have the same teeth as horses!

OnlyValidOpinion -- Where did you come from? Another uptight nutcase with no sense of humor speaks from the gut of hypocrisy. Have fun. Your silly attempts at insulting me are never going to work, you just make yourselves look pitiful.

I give my dogs & cats a couple of treats each day,and the dogs know what cookie means & can find the container of carob dog cookies even if I move it. When they've each had two treats I say "all gone" and they accept it including my male alley cat. The Siamese however will jump up & knock over the tall, thin Pounce jar & roll it and yell in Siamese that she can see & hear treats in there. I swear she's saying something like "you liar, I see goodies".

I have a rottweiller & a German shepherd, a Siamese and an alley cat. The female Siamese rules the male cat & both dogs. Animal Planet had the top ten most intelligent animals, (chimp, bird, dolphin, pig, horse, with dog near the bottom) AND a disclaimer stating they were unable to determine where cats fit in because the cats would not take their test! I think that's hilarious. I love dogs & cats & my opinion is that cats are slightly smarter when it suits the cat.

My cat also understands gestures.....she amazes me!!!!!! Also a very talky cat....she signals what she wants with her eyes, for example....when she wants to be brushed, she will sit by the brush and meow.....when i look at her and say what....she will look at the brush and back at me and will continue with this repetition til she gets brushed. She also runs to find me wherever I am if the phone rings, a refrig bell or microwave buzzer goes off,the alarm clock, etc. and will meow until I shut it off. She also will cup her paw over my hand when I brush her to show me where she wants to be brushed and for how long!!! She amazes me with other antics and gestures too numerous to mention....she also comes to her name.
