In an attempt to settle the matter of guardianship for Michael Jackson's three children, Katherine Jackson and Deborah Rowe joined to seek a delay in a custody hearing. A guardianship hearing scheduled for Monday has been delayed for a week, an attorney said Friday. Until then, Katherine Jackson will remain the temporary guardian of her son's three children, 12-year-old Prince Michael, 11-year-old Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and 7-year-old Prince Michael II.
Court records show a judge granted the delay Friday afternoon. The hearing could have presented a showdown between Katherine Jackson and Rowe, who was married to the pop singer from 1996 to 1999.

Instead, the two sides are trying to broker an out-of-court settlement.
"We are pleased that the child custody hearing has been continued over until July 20th to further our progress and allow us to privately and amicably resolve this most important matter in a dignified manner for the benefit of the children first and all involved," L. Londell McMillan said in a statement to The Associated Press.
Attorneys for Rowe declined to comment on Friday. Requests to interview Rowe have also been denied.

Rowe has not indicated in court filings that she intends to seek custody. She is the mother of Jackson's two oldest children. The youngest child, known to his family as Blanket, was born to a surrogate mother who has never been identified.
In a will signed in 2002, Michael Jackson stated he wanted his mother to care for his children if he died. As a backup, he designated singer and longtime friend Diana Ross.
Rowe was not given any role in the will. While much has been made of her decision in 2001 to terminate her parental rights, that decision was overturned and she and Jackson reached an out-of-court settlement in 2006.
The details of that agreement have never been released and it is unclear when Rowe, 50, last saw Jackson's children.

Even if it turns out that the children aren't biologically Michael's, I still don't think that Rowe should be awarded custody because to the children he really was their father and was a great one at that. I mean listen to what Paris said at the memorial; "Ever since I was born Daddy has been the greatest father you can ever imagine." Hearing her say that made it obvious that Michael was, for all intents and purposes, their real father. Custody should be awarded to the Jacksons because the children are comfortable with Michael's family. Rowe has been, as far as any of us knows, absent from their lives for the most part. It seems as though she is jumping at the chance to get these children back for money...I just hope the judges see right through her. The children shouldn't be separated anyway. I dunno about anyone else here, but I would be absolutely devastated if I had to be separated from a sibling and because of everything going on right now I think Prince, Paris, and Blanket need t...

totally get it how someone in Michael;s status would pay off the person so they would not ruin his reputation. I never heard that the kid was drugged by his dad, etc.(really bazaar if it is true) but I am commenting when Michel interviewed with Barbara Walters where he stated "There is nothing more beautiful than sharing your bed with a boy" That is what I questioned. I was not in Michael's mind but come on that was a strange comment to say considering she was interviewing him about molestation charges. Maybe he was innocent I don't realy know only he,GOD and the child know however, Michael needed real psychological help for his innocense or his guilt and didn't get it so this will always be an issue to his reputation his family & fans. I still think his father abused him and possible sexual abuse in hs young career.

DeborahPequeno 01:31 AMJul 12 2009: I admire your honesty but, just b/c he was strange doesn't mean anything happened. There is always that possibility that those people who accused him, were out for money. I mean, his accuser in the first trial was $68,400 behind in child support payments. This guy drugged his child with a sedative that made patients susceptible to suggestion and then recorded the child confessing to being touched touched by MJ. The fact that his father chose to settle rather than put the man jail, is suspicious to me. MJ has always stated that the only reason he paid that money was to make it all go away.

There is no way Rowe deserves the children. She is only in it for the money. Those poor children, leave them alone. And as for Joe jackson, it is all about the money for him too and always has been. As for grandma Jackson, look at her age for one and the other Joe Jackson is NOT positive for the children. What about Brook Sheilds adopting them?? It would be a great role model and "mom" for the children.

You know I loved Michael Jackson ever since I was little until I had children and all of the child molestation charges came out. I know when a person dies,we always want to see the best in them however, I think Michael Jackson was seriously disturbed and had a dark or mysterious side of him that only the people who really knew Michael the best will know. I hope for his own memory that maybe Janet or another family member will write a book and confess to explain it. My heart was broken almost 18 years ago when they suspected charges first started coming out. I believe in Michael's interview that he was super sensitive and harmless however, he did not see anything wrong in his suspicious behaviors and that to me detected suspicion. Everyone can think I am mean but I cannot be a hypocrite. I would love to go bak to the times of my king of pop and do no wrong thoughts I had of him. However, I think his soul was tormented and the truth should be told in honor of his memeory out of respect. ...

you know its funny to base the kids' race solely on their looks I am the biological mother of 2 biracial children whose father is a very dark complexion african american male and both of my children are very similar complexions to michael's children one of them even has blue eyes. You can never tell how genetics will line up or what is in a families past. Those children don't look "white" to me they definately appear to have another race in them none of us were there during conception! Lets let that family have some peace biological or not they are Jacksons in their heart and its none of our business I hope that unlike their father they can find some peace in this world and at least a small part of a "normal" life like their father wanted for them.
