Cops Say Missing Woman May Be in Trash

NEW YORK (July 10) - Police believe that a cleaning woman who vanished from a Manhattan high-rise may be dead, that her body was dumped in the trash and that she could turn up in a Pennsylvania landfill.
"We have reason to fear the worst," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

A search of the high-security building has failed to turn up any witnesses or clear evidence of a crime. But police say they suspect foul play because Eridania Rodriguez left behind her purse and other personal belongings and had not contacted loved ones since her disappearance midway through her shift on Tuesday evening.
Police were still searching basement floors of the skyscraper at 2 Rector St. on Friday. Detectives also had been dispatched to Keystone Sanitary Landfill in Dunmore, Pa. — the landfill used by the building's garbage collector — to look for a body.
Rodriguez, 46, was last seen around 7 p.m., when security cameras recorded her pushing a cart into an elevator. There was no footage of her leaving the high-rise near the World Trade Center site, police said.
Security in the building is typical for the financial district: Employees need identification cards to enter. Security cameras cover every entrance and many public areas. Every visitor is photographed before they are allowed up from the lobby.

Jeez, wasn't there a way to title and write this article a bit more diplomatically, sensitively and sympathetically?? Seriously this makes the poor woman sound like she was a piece of garbage, what is with you AOL writers?? Also, why haven't they been using dogs to find her? Seems like a pretty easy way to figure out what happened to the poor lady. My sympathies to her family and may she RIP if she is indeed dead. Also, WOMEN be aware of your surroundings, if someone is making you uncomfortable, get away... do not be afraid of hurting anyone's feelings!! Too many women are afraid of hurting strange men's feelings, do not give them directions, do not engage in conversation... leave the area, hide, do whatever you can to protect yourself, and/ or call someone for help ASAP.

I would not be so sure that she was dumped into the garbage, it is also possible that she is in one 9or more) of the empty floors.. how many floors? how many closets? how many offices? has anyone checked the roof? the bottom of the elevator shaft? the possibilities in this are immense.. maybe she is in a small closet in an office of an unoccupied floor.. it would take more than a few hours to do a thorough search of the buildinng.. check the furnace room? who knows what happened to her..

The people posting racist, sexist or sick, insensitive comments would never be brave enough to utter their filth outside of their homes or with like-minded morons. If this happened to their mother, sister, wife or friend, they'd be fuming for justice and vowing revenge toward anyone who displayed the slightest disrespect. Why does anonymity bring out the very worst in people, and why do so many become callous and insensitive when confronted with others' pain? Being arrogant or flippant will not protect you from suffering, and pointing out a vicitm's differences from yourself will not make you any safer. I hope the person responsible for this tragedy will be caught and punished to the full extent of the law. May the people who work there and those who love Eridania Rodriguez someday regain a sense of peace.

If they haven't already done so, the police should check on every DELIVERY person male or female, that had a truck, push cart or other conveyance, especially a laundry or unifrom service person that had use of a truck or van. A body or an unconcious person could be placed in a laundry/uniform cart and be pushed out the door past the guards into a truck. The WORST thing the police could do now would be to assume she is dead. She may be a prisoner in someone's basement. Hey, it has happened before - remember "Silence of the Lambs"? Keep Looking!
