Lot Notes

This pastel has been traditionally identified as a portrait of the artist. A self portrait, whose present location is unknown, was included among the works recorded in Basseporte's inventory after her death in 1780 (N. Jeffares, Dictionary of pastellists before 1800, Norwich, 2006, p. 49).
