I think MO realizes that it was Barack’s “affirmative action” (marrying her) that has put her in a terribly uncomfortable position for all the world to see. It is painful to see that she is so very out of her element. Nice glare at the French PM’s wife, who had invited them to dinner. MO would be happy just to be a big shot back in Chicago, and has no clue that she is America’s First Lady or what that means in a historic sense. I feel sorry for her girls. They are cute kids and she is right to focus on them. She should have stayed in DC.

I may have misunderstood the economics article (I’m a dunce at econ.), but at this point, I don’t see why the obama/dem tax changes are necessarily bad. Why is putting off taking a deduction until you claim the income a bad thing? We citizens would never get to pull something like that. The fact is, corp. hate paying taxes and spend tons of $ looking for ways to avoid them.
One of the things that really pissed me off about the Bush admin was the way they would give their contributors companies huge tax write offs and give government contracts to companies who moved their headquarters out of the US. Didn’t those companies cheney was involved in do this?
Anyway, these corps are always moaning that they pay the highest taxes in the world. Why should we just believe whatever they say? We all have to pay taxes. My sympathies aren’t with corp America at this point in time. They’ve gotten away with a lot in the past decade.
Yes, corporations hate paying taxes BECAUSE they are double taxed.
You ‘re forgetting that the owners – shareholders – must pay taxes on any income distributed by the corporation as ‘earnings per share’.
Taxing the corporation firstly and then taxing its owners secondly is double taxation.
So is making people pay taxes on their unemployment compensation! The companies have to pay that to the state as a tax, then the state taxes the people who get unemployment – even though the money is not enough to pay the monthly bills!
But Illinois thought that was a fine and dandy idea several (maybe 10-15) years ago so not only are we screwed because we don’t have a job, and there are no jobs to be had, but our taxes are going to be messed up for this year too. I’m glad I get to take the mortgage insurance deduction, but I’m not sure if it will cover that expense.
What’s your point, Em? I’ve been a shareholder most of my life–my kid & nieces & nephews are shareholders. It doesn’t make us owners of the corps, it makes us owners of shares of a corp. So what? Do I like paying a large percentage of our income for taxes? Of course not. Corps try to get out of paying taxes every possible way, becuz they’re in business to make money.
The point I was making is that they’re so greedy, they don’t want to pay their fair share. I haven’t gotten rich from being a shareholder, but the few people at the top of the corps I’ve owned shares in sure have, thanks to their tax breaks, tax subsidies, and other government protections. Someone has to pay for running the country. When the rich people don’t, and the rich corps don’t, we peons have to pay more. The Bush admin bent over backwards to accommodate big corps, and the results are: greed & mismanagement; high unemployment; the govt is broke; companies are in worse shape financially & we’re in a depression. However the rich are far richer. That doesn’t help me, my family, or any of the other Americans I know. We are all worse off financially than we were in the 90’s.
The article td had linked talked about barky’s admin wanting to eliminate some of the more unsavory tax dodges. I’m no fan of barky’s, (as at least half of the posters here can attest to), but that doesn’t seem unreasonable to me. I think it is very unpatriotic for these huge corps (like Halliburton & its subs) to move their headquarters offshore to dodge taxes while raking in billions off our dime.
My Dad is a lifelong Republican, a business owner and “shareholder” (not that I attach the same import to that that you seem to from your comment), & he thinks Bush is the worst prez we’ve ever had and that Bill Clinton was the best. (He was very sad that he didn’t get to vote for Hillary for prez; he thought all through this past decade that he would be able to vote for her.) My Mom & I are independent and centrist. I only mention this so as to show that my opinions are not formed from any particular political ideology, but on what I’ve seen during my lifetime.

From what I heard on Fox News, more Justices than Ginsburg were involved. At least four were there, looked at one another, and she said we’ll hear it.

I was just thinking that Carla Bruni is much better looking than Michelle Obama. But that’s not true. Michelle Obama, on the surface, is a very attractive woman. But it’s what in her heart — “first time I’m really proud of my country,” — hesitating if she would vote for Hillary if she were the nominee, and that expression on her face — which shows to me that she’s deeply insecure.

Re: Palin-
As a New Yorker, I don’t particularly care for Guiliani, but I find myself really liking Palin.
Today, the news is replete with stories about Newt Gingrich’s rivalry with her. Seems he didn’t want to share the stage with her (afraid of women, just like Barry), and accused her of plagiarism (backed up by HuffPo, of all sources).
At the risk of shamelessness, I posted something about it today.

If it’s true that the “news is replete with stories about New Gingrich’s rivalry with” Sarah Palin, then I would be very, very suspicious about this “news.”
Promoting any rivalry or dissent within the Republican Party, whether well founded or not, is a major goal of the media and Obama, whom they support.
They want to divide Obama’s opponents. They will do anything that they can to throw a monkey wrench into any movement that might gain traction against Obama.
Sarah is an extremely viable opponent to Obama. She’s applauded wherever she goes. Therefore, the 0MSM must help Obama to discredit her. They will temporarily support Newt Gingrich, so that HE, not Obama or his supporters, is the one to defeat her.
This what they did with McCain. They supported him long enough for him to get the nomination, then they deserted him. They did not want anyone to oppose Obama who had a chance of winning.
This is the same reason that they trot out Powell to say that the only way Republicans can win again is to become RINOs. Not true, but if we fall for it, so much the better for Obama.
On the other hand, there IS a faction within the Republican Party that I can only describe as sexist. They’ve already annointed their chosen one–Jindal, despite that he’s not eligible.
Sarah will not be part of the “old boys” club; not only because she’s a woman, but because she’s a strong, independent woman. They won’t be able to control her, because she’s a LEADER.
If the Republicans continue to go down this road, discounting Sarah Palin as THE person who could defeat Obama, then they will rue the day.
They will need WOMEN to defeat Obama. Newt Gingrich won’t deliver them. I doubt that Jindal will, either, because we, who watched what happened to Hillary during this past election and who KNOW that Obama is not eligible to be POTUS, are not about to support another ineligible man at the expense of yet another well-qualified woman.
Sarah Palin happens to be not only a woman but also the BEST candidate for 2012. If she’s treated by the Republicans as Hillary was treated by the Democrats, then I’ll be voting for anyone BUT a Democrat OR a Republican.

I am becoming increasingly concerned that what we saw happen to Hillary at the hand of the DNC will be repeated by the RNC with Sarah Palin. She is the biggest fundraiser, can pull a crowd like no other Republican and she threatens the “business as usual” in Washington, but the “boys” are NOT embracing her. WTF? This tells me they do not want the change she would bring. They like the kickbacks, control and status just as much as the Democrats do, they just want to be in power instead. Both parties like the power much, much more than they care about the country or the American people.
Palin threatens it all. If she is elected Washington will be unrecognizable…in a good way.
The Republican fundraiser held last night was down in $$ from the past. Newt didn’t pull the bucks. Palin would have if she would have spoke. I have noticed comment after comment in the blogosphere about people sending copies of their SarahPAC donation receipt in the return envelope of the RNC donation drive letter. They are sending the party a message. If you want our money and our vote get on board with Sarah and follow her lead.
The best way I know to avoid a Hillary repeat is to keep any Republican donations I make safe and secure in the PAC of Sarah Palin. That way she has my backing, my vote and the cash to campaign even if the RNC tries to pull their support. I think they will see soon enough that if they want the white House back they will need Sarah way more than she will need them.
It sure would be great if she could run as an Independent and win!

I was contacted to make a donation to Gingrich’s new orgainization…American Solutions. I agreed before realizing his affection for Palin during the election has turned sour because she steals the spotlight whenever she is present.
According to WaPo “Palin had been re-invited to the [joint House-Senate fundraising dinner tonight] and asked to speak only to have that invite reneged when concerns were raised that she would overshadow Gingrich.” Yeah, Newt’s concerns!
Rather than the donation, I will send Gingrich a letter of my disappointment in his new found “rivalry” and will make a donation to SarahPAC instead!

What I find interesting about this picture is Carla, who is (was)? a fashion model shows up to a D-Day celebration(rememberance) wearing no jewlery, no makeup, no professional hair style, and no designer clothes. Sitting next to her is completely the opposite. Professional hair, makeup, dress, and jewlery, and yet Carla outshines the skank from the hood.
From the look of Carla and those seated around her, there must be something playing on a big screen that has their attention. I’m assuming Carla must have made a comment about whatever it is that they are watching and MO didn’t like it. Didn’t like it at all!
The position of MO’s pupils lets you know that it is Carla that she is glaring at. Mrs Brown is seated next to Carla but Mo’s pupils would be more centered if she were looking past Carla.
I’d love to know what Carla said that made MEchelle give her that look.
From the other photos that I have seen of the event, everyone else is dressed in sobering clothing, this event is not a party by any means, it is a day of rememberance, akin to that of a funeral, yet MO is dressed in white, she stands out from all the other guests at the event. If she is not the center of attention, then watch out. Her glare is not the only “telling” thing about this photograph.

Politically incorrect
It has become very obvious that Obama is a foreigner.
Many of us are descended from those that have come to this country to find a better life for themselves and their children. Many came with nothing but a dream.
They did not come here to inject their old culture and beliefs unto this country but they came here to become Americans. They learned the language and tried to assimilate into the American way of life. It is not that they gave up their religions or beliefs, but their goal was to “be” an American.
Land if the free and the home of the brave !
Bennett wrote that you could judge a country by this fact. When you open a countries floodgates do the people run out or do they run in!
America always stood for democracy, freedom …. Life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
When has it become politically correct to foreign …. To demand that as a country we cater and impose the language and customs of other countries on citizens of this country. When did we accept the notion that we could change our laws, our textbooks and even our history to conform to and appease others. (there are textbooks in this country that say Jesus was a Palestinian!)
I believe that we do have to change.
We must change our Constitution.
No longer can we accept one with dual loyalties to become President of this country. The Contsitution therefore should require that one that has been primarily educated outside the US or educated outside the US for a period of 5 consecutive years be dsqualified from holding office in the executive branch of government.
I do believe the soul can be seen through the eye’s, As seen in photos of Moochelle , But let us not forget the photos of barry, The photo of barry that comes to mind is the one were he’s not soliuting the flag. Anyone who hasn’t seen the light by now ,Is not following whats going or there may not be any hope for. In 2010 Vote anyone not a lib.Even if that mean your uncle feaster.
My above comment was just food for thought aimed at those that have taken control of or country that may never have read the Constitution or the Declaration of Independence, it also applies to out sentatos and congressmen that find it unnecessary to read the bills they pass.

A mother from the feminist movement was so angry at her daughter for choosing to be a stay at home mom. Mom was a successful business woman and daughter decided to be at home with her children because she personally missed having her mother home with her as a child.
The mother was so offended because “she had fought so hard so her daughter and all women could have it all” (a career and be a wife and mother) and her daughter was ungrateful because she was just being a mom.
The daughter fought back and said her mother had fought not so she would be a career woman but so she would have a CHOICE to be whatever she wanted be.
Momma feminist just didn’t like her daughter’s choice!
