A public memorial service for Michael Jackson will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, and some details have finally been announced. Here's what's known:
>> 17,500 tickets will be distributed randomly in a lottery-style drawing to fans who register for them at StaplesCenter.com.
>> Of the tickets, 11,000 will be for fans to enter the services in the Staples Center, while 6,500 are for a simulcast in the Nokia Theater next door.
>> Wristbands and tickets will then be distributed at an off-site location, and not at the venue.
>> No tickets will be sold, and there will be no outside broadcast at or around the Staples Center.
>> A worldwide video feed from the services which will be available to every network and on the Internet for free.
>> There will also be no funeral procession despite previous reports of one.

Details of what will actually happen during the service -- performances, appearances, events, etc. -- have yet to be announced.
City officials aren't quite sure how they'll accommodate the expected flood of Michael Jackson mourners. Some estimates put the expected crowd at around 100,000. The Staples Center can hold about 20,000.
An official at the memorial press conference said that the Los Angeles Police Department has funds baked into their budget each year to pay overtime for extraordinary events, which this is considered.
The Jackson family had initially hoped to hold the memorial at the Neverland Ranch, but that fell through. There had also been talk of burying the singer at his old home.

Billionaire Thomas Barrack, who owns Neverland in a joint venture with Jackson, sought an exemption to bury the singer at the ranch. But the person says it's a complicated process and it couldn't be done for a burial this week.

Why does the family just have a service via TV or internet? Why have a event filled arena when it is not an offical funeral? Sure don't know why it's been said his body will not be there. His fans want to go to his funeral to pay there last respects. It seems so strange because of safety that I don't know why they just did it via a Broadcast of his funeral.

Jt44mag: the 11,000 is for fans only. I believe the celebs and music execs are included in the 2500 given to his family. I imagine there are also some reserved for the press as it was previously stated there are 18000 seats available.

I am glad that there will be no funeral procession. I hope that his family will keep his funeral dignified and classy, not some super circus show. Michael is not performing now, he's going to his final resting place and it should be done with dignity. Hopefully, the funeral program itself will have good speeches and songs by people who really care about MJ's death. And, I hope that it won't be 3 or 4 hours long either.

Michael was NOT a child molester. There must be some MAJOR credibility issues if an ALL WHITE jury believed Michael Jackson, whom they hate, over a ALLEGE CHILD WITH CANCER.IN OTHER WORDS, THE JURY ACQUITTED MICHAEL OVER A CANCER CHILD. Think about that.

what a crock !! the staple center .???..11,000...thats it ..??..well we can all see whose gonna get those "free "tickets ...the music industry execs and hollywood actors along with politicians will be the "chosen " ones along with a handful of "common " people to give it the right ambiance......they should just have a public service then private burial like princess di had and elvis ...instead this seems like a zoo.....and why the hell should it take so long to get a permit to bury him at Neverland .???..rediculous....his death will be remembered as a fiasco ..if they don't get their crap together ...j.t.

It wouldn't be any surprise to discover that many of the posters on this board who are calling Michael Jackson a pervert, etc. are really perverts themselves. I imagine there are people posting who have had sexual encounters with their own parents, siblings, teachers, preachers, etc. Also, how many are using sex toys and inflated sex dolls for their own pleasure?

WOW......Maybe all of the MJ hates out there should do some research and NOT believe all the trash that they hear on TV. MJ was aquitted........does that mean anything these days? Sure he was a bit strange but how many celebs out there survive all the attention without getting a little wacky once in awhile. At least MJ did ALOT of charity and changed the lives of many many many people for the good. I would suggest that instead of wasting so much time hating others you pick up a book or perhaps the court transcripts containing the events that took place during the trial.....you may just understand why MJ was aquitted!
