NEW YORK (June 24) -- A scan performed at a suburban New York City hospital shows an ancient Egyptian mummy thought for centuries to be a woman is a man.
A Manhasset hospital examined four mummies from the Brooklyn Museum on Tuesday. A CAT scan revealed a mummy named Lady Hor was male.

Researchers conducted the scans with the hopes of gaining further knowledge about ancient funeral practices and the mummies' identities and causes of death.
North Shore University Hospital spokeswoman Michelle Pinto says the testing enables radiologists to learn about the skeletal systems of the mummies in extraordinary detail without having to do invasive or damaging procedures.
The mummies range in age from about 1,700 years old to more than 3,000 years old.

Cute word gags. Actually when mummies were mummified, if someone had a "bone to pick with you" they believed if they changed your inscription on your sarcophagus calling you a woman, instead of a man (or mis-spelling your name, for a price) your spirit would not be able to locate its body. That was a fate worse than death.. your spirit would be in limbo for eternity... and JOEBUDGIE -Complain all you want about the high cost of medical insurance, these CAT scans are funded by the Science Department, or Office of Antiquities... and they usually happen in Cairo, so unless you don't mind being mummfied BEFORE your CAT scan, I'm afraid you'll still have to pay

so what exactly made them believe this was a female? I read someonme said it was buried next to its husband? I suppose you have documented proof of the mummies unearthing centuries ago? are you who Satan? or just one of the immortals? Your ignorant post falls on deaf ears until you PROVE your point.. I am just curious how soon someone is going to blame the president for the mis-identification. maybe he was a trusted guard of a powerful female?

Everytime I read about another mummy getting a CAT scan or MRI scan I wonder why we living patients and insurance companies have to pay so much for a God granted miracle of medicine to ease our pain or save our lives.
