" JoshthomasatTBI02:11 PMJun 23 2009veritox321 02:08 PMJun 23 2009 --------------Why don't you study religion in a church?"-------I have when I was a lad. I decided the answers that I got were insufficient. The Bible is far too complex to take someone else's word for it. I have loved it since I was a small child and decided to dedicate my life to its study, along with the Qur'an.

ORTnasty--you are correct in that roman history names Jesus. They wrote that his followers were fanatics and thus dangerous to the empire. I had read that history many years ago but are you sure you named "piny" the younger right it just doesn't sound right?

" Pjbl222302:01 PMJun 23 2009veritox321 wrote, " Don't forget that Josephus wrote circa 70AD, long after Christ and his friends were gone. There is also much compelling evidence that Josephus was edited significantly with piously fraudulent additions put in later. The only actual proof of Christ exists only through widespread oral tradition, so really it depends on how much creedence you give to that." Does this mean any work written today about Jefferson, Washington, Lincoln can't be believed because they were written after their death?"-------No, because there is independant attestation of their existence during their actual life time. The same cannot be said for Christ.

Whoa. Some of this religious debate borders on civil discussion--adamant, but without vitriol. When people like you take over boards like this, I'll consider leaving the house again...

" SailorGA02:00 PMJun 23 2009veritox321 Hey the books of the Bible are historical writings! The Dead Sea scrolls for example."-----Which date to the second century. Also, the Gospels are not a historical document, it is an ancient biography which is basically a writing meant to show the essence of a person, not literal facts of them.-----"You are just a godless person repeating his point of view which the majority of us don't agree with."------I am not godless, what I am is someone who studies religion in academia.------" Don't ridicule us for our beliefs and be glad we're Christians because the Muslims would literally have your head if you said the same thing about Mohammad."--------I am not ridiculing anyone, just disagreeing. If you read one of my below posts, you would see that I actually do believe Jesus existed. As far as Muslims go, I study their religion and talk to them about it frequently. I still have a head.
