(June 16) -- Authorities searched Tuesday morning for a passenger who apparently had fallen off a cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Carnival ship Holiday was stopped about one-third of the way as it headed from Mobile, Ala., to Cozumel, Mexico, and an announcement was made that a passenger might have gone overboard, another passenger told CNN.

The passenger apparently fell about 11:30 p.m. EDT Monday.
Passengers, who had been ordered to their cabins for a headcount, later watched as two search boats launched from the cruise ship to search nearby waters in the Gulf of Mexico. A Coast Guard helicopter also had been called.
A crew member had heard a loud splash near the vessel, prompting the headcount, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman told CNN.

A life preserver was thrown out, but no one was immediately found.
By early Tuesday, several boats still were hunting with searchlights in calm seas.
In a separate incident Monday, rescuers saved a passenger who had fallen off another Carnival cruise ship. The man had climbed a railing for a better a view of the scenery and slipped into the water near Tampa, Fla., the Coast Guard said.
The passenger was found clinging to a sea buoy and taken to a hospital with cuts to his arms.

If you try to beat a train or you climb ship's railings, you have a death wish.

For a secure cruise with a great crew try Holland America. Fantastic experience! Clean ship, friendly personnel, wonderful food. No troubles.

Exactly what good would cameras do? By then, the passenger would already be overboard...no one can respond that quickly.......the security probably figures its just another drunk passenger....

We have taken over 40 cruises and have never encountered any problems with security or ever been threatened . People drink incessantlly and go crazy and don't know how to conduct themselves which leads to tragedy. The best cruise lines are Crystal, Princess, Celebrity and Royal Carribbean.Happy sailing.Anchorsaway2

Cruise ships seem to me to be devils paradise. Wifes go missing, husbands fall overboard, I am sure some go over board for some very internesting reasons other than being drunk. Cruise ships appear to also be a wonderful target for terrorist. I recommend all the drive by media to get on board and investigate. hee heee

Your cruise is what you make it. If you don't want to be around drunks and college kids there are numerous other places on the ship to go. If you look for the negatives you will find it. If you want to have a good time you will. Like I have said before, nobody can "just fall overboard."

Scotthfleming ===== Blame it on Obama.......better yet, he will hire a czar to fix cruise industry too!!!!!! ========= Are you out of your mind? These events are obviously a result of failed Bush policies. Obie is blameless for this and all other negative events. But I do agree, we must have a Ocean Cruise Czar and Obie knows just the fund raiser for the job.

I've been on 9 cruises and I've only experienced one problem. Royal Caribbean was hosting a shoot for an episode of "America's Next Top Model", and the film crew didn't even want you to LOOK at the cuntz they brought aboard. That meant closing off HUGE sections of the ship over and over again...
