ARTFOLIO in the Jelatek Business Centre, Jalan Jelatek 2, Kuala Lumpur, presents Reality Of Surreal-Scape, a solo exhibition by Thai artist Paramat Lueng-On.
It is Paramat’s second solo exhibition in Malaysia.
Born in 1964, Paramat received his formal education and training at the College of Fine Arts, Bangkok. In 1986, he pursued a fine arts degree at the Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic Art at Silpakom University, Bangkok.
Reality of Surreal-Scape, the artist said in a statement, is neither a dream nor an imagination.
He likens his works to a “purification of one’s mental condition” and an “enhancement of life”.
Through his paintings, viewers can trace his icon-like marks which are well-organised on the canvas. He captures children, women, flora and fauna as icons, not unlike Iranian art.
There are ample distortions of human-eye perspectives and his paintings are structured like “balls placed on an empty table”.
The exhibition is open from 11am to 7pm, Mondays to Saturdays. Details, call 03-4252-1339.

Revelling in Aestheticism at SGM
THERE is no lack of beauty in life but a lack of eyes that can see the beauty in things.
This is the message conveyed by a host of artists from China in the art exhibition “Revelling In Aestheticism” at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, from now until June 7.
Launched on May 23 and organised by Soka Gakkai Malaysia, it challenges art lovers to be mindful of and cherish the simple pleasures in life, such as nature’s beauty.
The exhibition showcases 45 pieces of exquisite oil paintings from SGM’s collection.
The 15 renowned oil painting artists from China include Li Tianxiang, Zhao Youping, Wen Lipeng, Ma Changli, Yang Hongtai, Pan Shixun, Chen Junde, Yan Zhenduo, Wang Yipeng, Li Yanzhou, Wang Xin, Li Mu, Chen Hui, Wang Shaolun and Yan Bo.
The artists express the beauty and serenity of nature through soft brush strokes and light-coloured oil paintings. Some also display strong and intense colours with bold brush strokes to illustrate nature’s grandeur.
There are also paintings which incorporate the elements and concepts of Chinese art, thus producing an eastern ambience with a touch of western feel. Others include figurative and still life paintings, works portraying Chinese historical events and Tibetan-style works employing simple shapes with bright colours.
The exhibition is a celebration of pluralism in artistic expression that celebrates the diversity of art from China.
Time: 11am to 6pm daily. Free entry. Call 03-9075-6876.
