In Achisil (Achigok), Achi 1-ri, Hwangryong-myeon, Jangseong County, South Jeolla Province is known as Hong Gil-Dong 's birthplace. The area has persimmon trees that seem to be hundreds of years old and mountain bamboos surround the birth-home. Also in the valley thirty meters down the area is the 'Gildong fountain' where clean water flows all year round.

¨ç Gildong Fountain where Hong Gil-Dong used to drink in Hen Valley. Before being polluted by the New Village Movement in the 1970s, residents were able to drink from it. |

¨è In Jeungbohaedongijeok by Yun-Seok Hwang records that there was a man called Hong Gil-Dong in the early age of the country, and he was a brother of the minister Il-Dong Hong. (Il-Dong Hong lived in Achigok of Jangseong.)
It is recorded that he believed his talents, but the national law did not allow him to have a position in the government due to his social status. He ran away, later captured. |
