Hong Gil-Dong originally had been despised as a leader of「band of thieves」in the distorted history. However, he was a hero and a person who conducted a campaign to promote citizen's right. He denied the discrimination arising from social hierarchy of Joseon and punished the corrupted officials who mistreated the people of Joseon.

The records in「Authentic of Joseon Dynasty」notes that 「 Hong Gil-Dong and followers acted in Chungcheong Province, but they were captured with the headman of the region, Gui-Son Eum, and sent in custody to Hanyang (old name of Seoul) and tortured.」 |
