This looks very unnatural. Round eyed, oval faced people look more natural on blonde dye.

Lol who said I was trying to look natural? mellow.gif Nice assumption, but totally wrong. Maybe next time?

thehappening: Oh my god, I love the blue--it looks so stunning. I would kill for hair like in that first picture.

Honestly I think Ginger looks hot with blonde hair. Her features and skin colour suits it well,I actually prefer her with lighter hair it makes her face look brighter.

I use foil to separate sections of my hair when I highlight it. It's for organization and making sure the bleach doesn't get on the rest of the hair, really. I don't know why you'd use foils for all-over color.

foil is a metal and metal+bleach=chemical reaction, supposely will lift your hair even more ohmy.gif that's why when you read the instruction on the bleach packet it says never to use with metals xD
F00LiiSH x3
I don't think foil does any chemical reaction with bleach. If you notice when bleaching, it is the heat from your scalp that makes the root of your hair lighter than the rest. Foil helps to keep your hair in place and keep your hair in moist because once bleach is dried out, it will stop working.

WORTH IT?: - yes
Natural Hair type:
fine, long, weak, straight
Hair History: -
dyed a lot of times, can't remember how many
at salon and at home
Hair color #1:
black, box dye, l'oreal. was very jet black in the beginning and faded to a very dark brown. can't remember what my hair colour was before i did this.. i think it was brown with red streaks. :S after dyeing my hair, it was quite coarse and dry, but nothing too horrible.

Hair color #3
darkish brown (done at a salon)
around 70 dollars, hair was still healthy feeling afterwards.

(keep in mind that there's no flash in this picture, but there is in the other one. with flash, my hair colour would show up slightly lighter here)
Hair color After:

light brown
Bleach?:
no
Hair Dye:
prettia, orange-brown one, sorry can't remember the name
Price: ~ 7-10 dollars canadian, bought it in japan
Changes:
- Damage?
ends of my hair were really dry but the rest of it was fine
Description: - i just put it all over my whole head (which took around 30 minutes) and then waited about 40 minutes. not supposed to leave it that long but i did anyway lol
Comments: - i'm pretty sure the results were due to the fact that my hair was already dyed. plus my hair is weak and light-coloured naturally so it changes colour quite easily. when i used the same box dye on my cousin (who has thick, strong black hair) it only left a brown tint. so i would use this if i wanted to lighten up my already brown hair, but going from black to the light brown i have with this dye probably won't work.

Well i was talking about in general... foil and bleach do have a chemical reaction ohmy.gif if you ever leave those to together. XD and i was talking about metals.... and for EXTENDED amount of time xD =bad results ohmy.gif You'd be surpise how many ppl don't follow the rules for bleaching... they completely ignore the time limit. so it's all on them lol but i fyou do follow metal+bleach is harmless xD LOL

Very helpful thread. ^^ Nice idea.

Worth it?:

So far so good. =]
Natural Hair type:
Long, medium thickness, slightly wavy.
Hair History:
Has only been dyed a few times the same color underneath. Top of the head was untouched.
Hair color Before:
Ash blond. (With dye underneath; a dark brown/auburn).
Hair color After:
Black underneath and a very dark brown/auburn on top.
Bleach?:
Nope.
Hair Dye:
Unfortunately unknown. Went to a hair dresser with whom I've had much experience before.
Price:
$32. =D
Changes:
Every time I leave I have uber soft locks for what seems like weeks; so I think the dye is quite gentle. I use heat very often for styling and the dye has seemed to do no further specific damage than what I had done without the dye in the first place. xD
Description:
Had my hair sectioned off so that only the bottom layers could be worked on. Paper sheets separated the top layers and my bangs and the other color was applied. Waited for about 25 minutes and rinsed.
Comments:
Definitely a big change for me. I wish I could recommend the brand of dye that was used, but as mentioned before this was done by a hair dresser I've been to many times. My main hope now is that the slightly lighter color on top won't fade too much. I think it's pretty inevitable, but since I've had the color that's now on top underneath before, I know that after about four months I'll only really begin to see the red.

Yes, it can create chemical reaction if you use the aliminum foil like the ones in your kitchen. The foil that is formulated for professional hairdressers is thinner. Anyways, I've been using the regular foil and my hair is fine. rolleyes.gif

Bleach?: no
Hair Dye: First is Garnier Reddish Brown (bangs only), then it was this Korean brand Blue Black (whole head).
Price: Garnier was leftover.. so free >_>. Korean brand was $12.
Changes: No damage or texture change. It still smells a little o.o.
Description: First time with leftover Garnier - I put whatever was left onto my bangs and let it sit for 30 min and rinse, no shampoo and just conditioner.
Second time with Korean hair dye - My mom took a lot of time and went layer by layer going from ends to roots and then AFTER that I let it sit for 40 minutes. Rinsed it out, shampooed, and used conditioner in the box (as directed by instructions).
Comments: - Several people couldn't tell I dyed my bangs the first time. You had to hold like a few separate hairs up to the light to even see it. >_> I am waiting for tomorrow morning for the results of the second one, but it doesn't look blue indoors.. that's for sure. Hmm just a question, i dyed my hair for the first time today LOL, and it didn't show up so well. My hair is still very black with a very tiny hint of red which i can only see with very bright lights =.=. I used the Garnier Nutrisse brand and w/e the caffe latte one was lol. I did everything written on the intructions and used up more then half the bottle of the dye mix, and left it for 25 mins with a plastic bag wrapped around my hair. Any tipz to make the color show up more for the next time I dye it without having to bleach?

That's what happened to me the first time I dyed my hair.

Afterwards, my aunt did it for me and she didn't use bleach at all and it still showed up.
I think you should apply more, don't worry too much about overdoing it as you have black hair.
Also, leave it in longer.

When my aunt did my hair, she first applied it all over my hair excluding my roots and used two tubes of dye.
I sat with that for an hour and then she repeated the process for my roots and I left that in for a half hour.
AFTER that, she applied a bit more and I waited for another 25 minutes before washing it out.

And if you check the previous page, you can see my results :]
RawrChu
dang ur hair in da 2nd pic looks mighty finee LOL. Do i have to use 2 tubes cuz i have pretty short hair, and wouldn't using 2 tubes of dye + leaving it in for that long really kill ur hair?

lols, thanks.
Oh of course not. As you can see my hair was medium length, so it took more dye.
My cousin also dyed her hair with me at the time and she used less dye than me because her hair was alot shorter.

And aha xD if you're gonna dye your hair, prepare yourself for the possible damage.

lolo ya my hair is sumwat dmged b4 i dyed it, i just don't want to see strands of hair fallin out after i wash the dye off LOLO. thnx xD

has anyone dyed their hair purple-black? like it looks black in a normal indoor room, but if its struck by lighting you could see the purple tone

I was wondering about that too.
I bought purple hair dye today, but it doesn't look really purple, more like black on the box.
Anyone have suggestions on how to acheive the purple-black color? or like purple tinted black hair? lol

Description: - I kept spreading dye over my head, by the squeeze fulls until the dye bottle stopped squirting and then wrapped a plastic bag over for about 45 minutes, not including the whole spreading dye like butter thing.
Comments: - Overall I'm pleased with the outcome, hopefully it doesn't fade too much. One thing i found sorta odd was that it didn't come with conditioner, so I just used my household one when I was done washing.
I don't know why i waste money on hairdye with such short hair ph34r.gif

April '08

Oct '08
-I dyed my hair black, then highlighted it with red =/

^-- black. Although that was taken in Dec, but the red didnt show up.

^--you can slightly see some red.

Current:

well what the girl basically did was she used lightening powder to lighten my hair, then a purple dye go over it. It looks plat in the picture according to few, but its not ^^; she bleached it to an orangey colour, since i had red in my hair still
&teekayy;
WORTH IT?: in short term, yes . in the long run... nooo

Natural Hair type:
- fine
- straight
- long...... HELLa long
- naturally BLACK.
Hair History: -
dyed like 4-6 times since I was 12/13
I'm 15 now.... can't really remember the times I've dyed it

First it's been dyed HELLA light brown; then straight up red, the dark brown, the some other shade of brown, then with some red highlights, then light again, and now dark again. I can never make up my mind

Hair color Before:

after dying it really light - dark brown

super old... first few times i dyed it haha

then i dyed it brown..... which was this most boring color for the longest time..

which faded hella ugly to.....

my favorite hair change.. red highlights..

my most recent one, i decided to calm down and dye it black without looking too fake/blue so i just used dark brown hair dye which turned out black like i expected and this was what it looked like...

but it fades... so now its like...

wow timeline of my hair much

Hair color NOW: - color after -
no bleach

Price: only dyed it professionally for the red highlights; about 160 including the cut.

Changes:
- Damage? ONLY AFTER the red highglights... my streaks that were red now get tangled very easily.. dying my hair natural colors did like little-no damage. ahha
- Texture change? not really.

sorry if pictures were hella big and if it was way more than needed/asked
pictures are in a span of like three years...

Natural Hair Type:
It is natrually straight and is a little bit past shoulder length. It's thick and is pretty much unhealthy. D:

Hair History:
-Virgin/Dyed 2 times

Hair color Before: My virgin dark dark dark brown/black hair. (1st Picture)
Hair color After: A dark dark auburn? (Or so my mother told me) (2nd Picture: Girl on the left)
Bleach?: No
Hair Dye: I don't remember. D;
Price: My mother just gave it to me one day.
Changes:
Umm.. there wasn't a big difference. In the light, you could see a slight red and lighter brown.
Description: - My friend helped me dye my hair since it was my first time ever and she, like, dyes her hair all the time. She put the dye in and I left it in for an hour.
Comments: - Since there wasn't such a big difference, I didn't really care. But yeah, I liked taking pictures in sunlight 'cause it would actually show. Haha!

Hair color Before: Close to virgin coloured hair with a a tint of auburn red.
Hair color After: A very light brown, and a dark blonde in the light.
Bleach?: No
Hair Dye: Garnier Belle Color #113
Price: I got it for $4 from my friend
Changes:
My hair turned lighter than expected.
Description: - This time, I dyed my hair myself. My friend told me to leave it in for and hour for better results so I did. I checked the mirror, and I did not expect it to be so light! I was going for a light dark brown.
Comments: - Big difference, but I got a lot of positive comments about my hair when I got to school. Haha!

Question:
What other hair dye is good to use? I've been told Garnier has some good ones. I'm planning on re-dying my hair when my roots grow in to a light ash brown kind of colour, but I don't know what hair dye is best and such.
