SHITAO (1642-1707)
Drizzle and Mist over the River Banks
Hanging scroll, ink and colour on paper
56 x 25.5 cm. (22 x 10 in.)
Inscribed with a seven-character poem and signed, with one seal of the artist


清 石濤 堤畔煙雨 淺絳紙本 立軸
題識： 上巳春陰盡日閒，一舟招我始開關。 笙歌錦簇隋堤畔，煙雨濃遮蜀嶺間。 把酒直須流水曲，簪花不合鬢毛班。 相逢但說江都好，鼓枻乘波趁暮還。三月三日，研旅、退夫兩先生，招同勿齋諸子，泛舟紅橋雨中即事。研翁以此紙索余戲為之圖并正。 清湘遺人極。

鄭振鐸《域外所藏中國古畫集》續集，第201頁。

按： 此《堤畔煙雨圖》乃石濤畫與黃研旅者。畫中題識諸人，研旅乃黃燕思 (1661-? )，退夫乃程退夫，勿齋乃王熹 儒 (見《中國美術家人名辭典》，上海 人民美術出版社，1981年，第133頁)。諸人與石濤均熟稔，尤其黃研旅，石濤贈畫頗多，現存香港何氏至樂樓之《黃硯旅詩意冊》尤為稱著。原畫冊應是三十二開，現存二十二開。末開石濤題識“黃硯旅時遊嶺南，夜別勿齋、退夫、受安諸兄弟之作，余不能同遊⋯⋯”諸人與本軸所題諸人相同。故畫作年代很可能是同一年辛己 (1701年)。
