Who Gives Kudos:

Tuesday, June 19, 2007
...or at least the "business of music" in general is going fine. The status quo "music biz" is certainly teetering on the brink, but that's cool with me. There will always be making music, touring, all of that. I know I'm overstating the obvious, but everyone I know, including myself, has no shortage of interesting, challenging, and fun projects going on.

This is a roundabout way of me saying I'm really busy, and loving it. Here's the latest:

I'm working on a film called "30 Days of Night" with Brian Reitzell, my old colleague from Air.

Doing a good deal of songwriting, including tracks for Shirley Manson, and continuing to write with my man Jeff Trott.

Holly Palmer's album "Songs for Tuesday" has just been released, quite proud of that.

Going in the studio starting later this week with Giant Drag to work on that record into July.

Continuing work with the very cool band Sea Wolf on Dangerbird Records.

Just finished a remix for the song "Secret Things" for Ken Andrews, who's latest record I also co-produced. He and I are also going into the studio next week to do four days of tracking for our LADNA music collective project.

My band Wounded Cougar is finishing mixing and mastering of our album, which will certainly melt faces upon release.

Beck recording is starting to ramp up. He and his wife had their new baby three weeks ago, which always slows things down just a bit. Happy to report the whole family and new arrival are doing fantastic.

Other than that, I had an amazing (2nd) father's day, and am going camping with my family soon on Catalina Island - that should be a great deal of fun!

Enjoy Spring.

Best,
JMJ

Keep up the good work J. As long as there are musicians like you and the rest of the guys and gals, the music business will be alive and well. I'm sure you would agree that this day and age is better for the musicians. The record company execs might not like it, but a musician and bands today have much more access and opportunity for exposure of their art then they did 20 years ago. I actually went out and bought "The Information" instead of just ripping it off the net, and I know I'm not the only one. Good luck with all of your projects, and please tell Beck to come to Columbus, OH. soon.
