Child Born a Boy, But Lives as a Girl

(May 19) - An Omaha child born a boy will start the next school year with a new name and a new identity -- as Katie, a girl.
According to the Omaha World-Herald, the parents of the 8-year-old say the child they first named Ben exhibited girlish tendencies as young as 2, when he would create long hair using scarves. A year later, he donned a tiara and dressed as a princess for Halloween.
The child's mother told a CNN affiliate that she's come forward to tell her family's story so people will understand. The Omaha newspaper reported that it is difficult to accurately estimate the number of people in Western countries who are transgendered, meaning they see themselves as a different gender, according to the American Psychological Association.

"If the child is truly transgender, it's not going to go away," said counselor Megan Smith, whom the family consulted.
Ben's family looked at his school drawings that expressed his frustration with feeling like a girl, but looking like a boy. They asked him what he liked about being a boy, and he always answered, "nothing."
Finally, they decided to let Ben be what he wants -- Katie.
"This really isn't our journey," his mother told the newspaper. "We're kind of observers on this path."

This pheonomenon will become increasingly more common due to the estrogen mimickers in our food, water and air. These include phalates and BPA from plastics, pesticides and herbicides as well as pharmaceuticals that enter the water supply through the sewer system when people who take them elminate their bowels and bladder. We are losing our men to feminization. I don't know why politicians aren't more concerned. I guess they're too busy pocketing the lobbying money from pharmaceutical companies and industrial chemical companies that make poisons and plastics. It's a sick world where profits trump people's health and well-being.

Molesters FEEL like molesting, murderers FEEL like killing, some married people FEEL like having affairs, and the list goes on. Point in case, having FEELINGS does not make it right. It's how you cope and deal with them. Just because society is accepting HOMOSEXUALITY and condoning it, does not make it right. Somebody has to take a stand on what is right. BISH, there are indeed brain differences between male and female brains and those that feel they are born the wrong gender often display the opposite gender's thinking patterns. It's not just that he's dressing up as a girl, it's that, aside from his sexual organs, he *is* a girl. Our cultural gender roles are so ingrained that you may not feel like a "girl" and just like a person but any psychologist knows that there are remarkable differences caused by biology and culture between men and women. They compound each other, leading those who feel like the opposite sex to take on that sex's gender role.

Where's Child Protective Services in this? Instead of reinforing the fact the child is a boy, these "parents" want to let him dress like a girl? So if the kid says he can fly, I guess they will let him jump off a bridge.

HarrCrm 09:51 AMMay 20 2009 This is sad. The parents are so wrong for allowing this. Don't they understand that this child will now be bullied, picked on and more than likely beat up at school. It's horrible enough to let their male child dress up like a girl, but now live as one. This is morally wrong. Child services should be involved. The parents want their 15 minutes of fame, why else bring this to the media.urn:x-aol:oid:mddn:5f0935b6-4545-11de-9f05-27d580892084 AVG RATING: (1) REPORT! rate this comment It is not in the fact the child senses something is not the way it "should be" within himself. The problem is with those who will bully, pick on, or torment this child. He is of NO LESS value than any other human being. I don't have an answer to his dilemma, but I DO think his parents love him and are trying to do the right thing in the given circumstances.

What ROT and dumb parents! Children so often want to do what they see. Bet he's got big sisters that he watches and who play with him, if not, it could be babysitters, cousins, etc., who influence him and there just happens to be more females than males around. He just needs to spend some time with his dad or others of the male gender and have someone besides girls to identify with.

Jeff1214 09:45 AMMay 20 2009 I am going to repeat my post so that you people can understand what is involved. There are many steps involved in the womb before a child becomes male or female. If the mother's body does not produce a particular homone at the proper time the child may be born with gender problems. Also DNA may go awry. This is NOT the fault of the parents or the child. Nature works in mysterious ways and nature is not perfect. How can we insist a person act male or female when nature throws in its own set of rules. Please forget about forcing the child to do this or that, it is not the child's fault but the way the child was born. Just accept that everybody is not born the same and nature does throw in a curve ball every now and then.urn:x-aol:oid:mddn:70b01e16-4544-11de-9336-dfe8f9f2302d AVG RATING: (1) REPORT! rate this comment You are correct.
