Ways You Might Be Breaking the Law (With Your Tech)
15. Oversharing Bandwidth
This one doesn't concern the courts, but it could cut off Internet service. Your provider may or may not allow you to share an Internet connection with neighbors -- either by running an Ethernet cable or setting up a Wi-Fi network. Comcast, for example, says that such sharing is a violation of the service agreement. Even if you signed up for "unlimited" access (which may not be unlimited after all), that's service for you and your premises, not for the whole block. Are you likely to get caught for this one? Maybe if you and several neighbors all run BitTorrent servers. Otherwise, it's doubtful.
