Our first makeover winner gets a new look

Carmen Bunker was “stuck with a look” and ready for a change.
It was time to trade in her washed-out blonde bob for a style with some wow factor -and North of the City helped her do just that.

Ms. Bunker, the first winner of our makeover contest, met with high-profile hairstylist Jeffery Andrew Barkley at his “gorgeous” Yellow Orange Salon & Spa in Aurora.

Mr. Barkley says Ms. Bunker’s outdated do -with its centre part, heavy bangs and severe lines – was just not working for her. “The lines were too hard for the back of her neck and for the frame of her face” and the colour made her look pale.

So he set out to give her a fashionable look that best complemented her features.

“Angling (the hair) away from the face and softering the sides really complements the cheekbones and makes them stand out…” he explains his work. “The hair swept to the side instead of parted in the centre makes the eyes the main focus”.

The coppery colour -actually three colours from the L’Oreal Professionel’s new fall/winter collection -was chosen to complement Ms. Bunker’s pinky skin tone and blue eyes, ans applied in a way that lengtheras and slims her face.

“It’s a sexy look” says Mr. Barkley, “very easy to manage, no matter which way the wind blows.”

Ms. Bunket, who is a busy mother to three young children, said friends and acquaintances were quick to compliment her on her new look. Many described it as “fresh and young” she says.

In addition to her new do, Ms. Bunker was happy to receive hair care advice (“to avoid that frizzled look”) from colourist Grace Harvey and makeup tips from Lorraine Beutler.
