Feisty Anita opens jewelry box to protect her treasure chest (http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/waiwai/face/index.html)
This is the Chilean woman that smartly invested the ill-gotten gains her idiot husband embezzled from the Aomori government. Some of the best quotes:
"Japanese treat Latin women like slaves when they work as prostitutes. The money I managed to get my hands on is but a small payment for what they put me through. I'm never giving any of it back and I'll fight them all the way."
You could probably rephrase that:
"Japanese men treat women like slaves"
And:
"I knew nothing about (Chida's) embezzlement. I thought he was giving me the money because I was his wife. I'm never giving it back. Japanese all seem serious and smart. But they didn't notice (the embezzlement) for eight years. That seems pretty stupid to me"
And:
Japanese men's stamina -- "they last no more than 2 minutes and 40 seconds" -- and malehood -- "they're tiny." 8O
I wonder how much Japan is paying Chile to forclose on her holdings... probably more than the money they'll get in return...

She`s complaining about being a prostitute in Japan, but if you read the story she was already doing that in Chile. What a hypocrite. Whether or not she knew the money was stolen is irrelevant. She`s going to lose her assets in the courts. If she wrecks the house she`ll probably end up going to jail. The Chilean govt isn`t going to care about some two-bit hooker.

Reuters: Chilean Anita Alvarado arrives to a court in Santiago while being accompanied by her lawyer, February 11, 2005. The so-called 'Chilean geisha,' who said she was forced to perform up to 30 sexual acts per day as a prostitute in Japan, rose to fame as the result of the millions of dollars in ill-gotten gains she received from her Japanese husband. Alvarado was officially placed under arrest for promoting and easing the prostitution of five Chilean women in Japan. According to Japanese prosecutors, Alvarado received from her husband 810 million yen (nearly US$7 million) that were invested in a night club, a medical center and an extravagant mansion

Here's an early story from 2002:
Auction of Anita home yields only fraction of embezzled funds (http://www12.mainichi.co.jp/news/mdn/search-news/923507/anita-0-5.html)
Mainichi
AOMORI -- An Aomori housing corporation that lost 1.45 billion yen in the high profile embezzlement case recouped only 24 million yen through the auction of Anita Alvarado's luxury mansion in Santiago, Chile, it was learned Wednesday.
On Tuesday, some 604,000 U.S. dollars -- about 74 million yen -- was deposited to the bank account of the victim, the Aomori Prefectural Housing Supply Public Corp., following the successful auction of Anita's Santiago mansion.
The mansion is in Santiago. So it could be a regular one.

Your heart was in the right place. That's the important thing. It would make a better story if it were Japanese mansion.

Aomori housing execs ordered to pay in 'Chilean geisha' case
Japan Times, March 1, 2006 (http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20060301a5.html)
AOMORI (Kyodo) A district court ordered five former Aomori prefectural housing corporation executives Tuesday to pay 42 million yen for failing to detect that an employee embezzled 1.4 billion yen over seven years.
In a civil lawsuit filed with the Aomori District Court, the public housing company sought a combined 900 million yen in damages from 19 former executives of Aomori Prefectural Housing Supply Public Corp. in connection with the embezzlement by Yuji Chida, 48, citing lax management. All 19 executives denied responsibility, saying it was impossible to detect the embezzlement. ...more... Mainichi: 'Chilean geisha' Anita reportedly headed for Japan (http://mdn.mainichi-msn.co.jp/national/news/20070131p2a00m0na014000c.html)
Anita Alvarado, the Chilean wife of a former Aomori Prefectural Housing Supply Public Corp. worker who was jailed for embezzling some 1.45 billion yen from the corporation, is planning to visit Japan, a local Chilean newspaper has reported. In an article on Monday, the Ultimas Noticias newspaper quoted the 34-year-old Alvarado as saying that she thought she had to show her face in Japan, and that she was leaving on Monday to meet her husband who had given her everything.
Alvarado reportedly received some 800 million yen from Yuji Chida, who is serving a prison sentence for embezzlement. If her comments quoted in the newspaper are true, it would be Alvarado's first visit to Japan since the embezzlement was uncovered in 2001. Civil and criminal lawsuits over the embezzlement have already been settled, and police and officials from the prefectural housing supply public corporation have reportedly said it is now too late for them to take action against Alvarado.
