Overview

DB2^® V9.1 for Linux™, UNIX^®, and Windows™ delivers new features that address the needs of today's businesses, including integrating business data from across your organization, focusing limited IT resource on creating business value, or providing a secure and resilient information management system for your valuable information assets.

Data server for an XML-based service-oriented architecture

More information is in XML format, or directly storable as XML format, than in relational data tables. Most of this XML information is neither protected nor utilized to the same extent as other data because doing so has been cost prohibitive. DB2 V9.1 introduces the first hybrid data server for the industry, serving data from both pure relational and pureXML structures. This technology delivers unprecedented application performance and development time/cost savings that makes XML data cost effective for the first time, enabling greater business insight faster at lower cost.

To provide this innovative support for managing XML data, DB2 V9.1 features new XML-specific storage management, indexing, and optimization techniques. It also interfaces to a wide range of popular programming languages, allowing users to optionally validate their XML data prior to storage, and extends popular database utilities important for importing data and administering the environment.

Agile application development

An enhanced set of application development tools simplify database application development and ease application deployment, including a new Developer Workbench, enhanced functionality for Visual Studio 2005, and XML and XQuery support. DB2 V9.1 also introduces a unified debugger, rapid application deployment with a lightweight runtime client, and many other features that allow you to save time and develop applications that work across different DB2 data servers.

Reduced administration

IBM continues to simplify deployment of DB2. With new features such as nonadministrator installation on Windows, response file installation enhancements, and support for coexistence of multiple copies of the DB2 database system, DB2 V9.1 allows your IT staff to spend more time supporting your business needs instead of installing and deploying database systems. Autonomic features help reduce the time required to administer and tune your database system.

Enhanced security and resiliency

Administrators have improved control over database security with the fine-grained, label-based security and a new security administrator authority level. These provide greater control over access to information assets and improved reporting capabilities for monitoring access to sensitive data.

DB2 V9.1 improves data availability with online integrity processing and improved recovery capabilities. Large database management is further improved with table partitioning that allows for larger tables, facilitates fast roll-in and roll-out of data in a warehouse, improves query performance, and reduces the administration time by allowing administrative tasks on individual data partitions. Performance is further improved with statistical views, faster data loading capabilities, and Materialized Query Table (MQT) enhancements.

Description

Important new features and enhancements introduced in DB2 V9.1 include:

Information as a service with a new hybrid relational and XML data server

• Support of a new XML data type that allows you to store well-formed XML documents in their hierarchical form within columns of a table.
• Support for the new XQuery language developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). DB2 V9.1 allows you to invoke XQuery directly, calling functions that extract XML data from DB2 tables and views.
• Support for the XML data type in SQL statements and SQL/XML functions.
• Support for indexing over XML data, which improves the efficiency of queries you issue against XML documents.
• Access and management of XML data by the DB2 data server. Existing DB2 tools such as the Control Center, Command Line Processor, and Visual Explain are enhanced to support XML data.
• New tools such as XQuery builder to create queries against XML data.
• XML support for SQL and external procedures.
• Support for XML in many DB2-supported programming languages, which enables applications to access and store both XML and relational data.

More agile application development with an enhanced set of application development tools

• Application development tools and support for the new XML data store feature, which enables applications to access and store both XML and relational data.
• An enhanced DB2 Driver for JDBC and SQLJ, which complies with JDBC 3.0 specifications and includes support for SQLJ statements that perform equivalent functions to most JDBC methods. Other key features include support for many new data types, new DB2-only methods to support trusted connections to DB2 for z/OS^® data servers, and heterogeneous pooling and connection reuse.
• The DB2 Developer Workbench, which is a comprehensive development environment for creating, editing, debugging, deploying, and testing DB2 stored procedures and user-defined functions. You can also use Developer Workbench to develop SQLJ applications, and to create, edit, and run SQL statements and XML queries.
• Additional support for Visual Studio 2005, which includes support for Web services, full support for XML data store, and the ability to build applications and Web sites without writing code.
• An enhanced DB2 Runtime Client, which includes 64-bit support, coexistence with other DB2 products on the same computer, and free-distribution licensing with applications that are sold to other companies.
• Installation enhancements for the IBM DB2 Driver for ODBC and CLI, which can now be installed without installing a DB2 client.

New automated database administration features that improve productivity

• Adaptive self-tuning memory allocation, which helps reduce or eliminate the task of configuring your DB2 server by continuously updating configuration parameters, resizing buffer pools, and dynamically distributing available memory resources.
• Automated health monitoring for DB2 for z/OS objects, which allows you to automate object maintenance policy evaluations for DB2 for z/OS objects through the Control Center's Create and Change Object Policy wizard.
• Automatic storage support, which automatically grows the size of your database across disk and file systems, is now available for multipartition databases.
• Automated statistics collection, which is enabled by default when you create a new database.
• Automatic configuration of pre-fetchers and page cleaners based on DB2 database system environment characteristics.
• New automatic table and index reorganization policy options for automated table and index reorganization, which provide your database administrator (DBA) with more capabilities for managing table and index reorganization.

Improved large database management with table partitioning

Table partitioning is a data organization scheme in which table data is divided across multiple storage objects called table partitions or ranges according to values in one or more table columns. These storage objects can be in different table spaces, in the same table space, or in a combination of both. Benefits of this new feature include:

• The ability to create very large tables. A partitioned table can contain vastly more data than an ordinary table. By dividing table data across multiple storage objects, you can significantly increase the size of a table.
• More flexible administration capabilities. You can now perform administrative tasks on individual data partitions. Time-consuming maintenance operations can be broken down into a series of smaller operations.
• More granular control of index placement. Indexes can be placed in different table spaces and managed individually.
• Fast, easy roll-in or roll-out of data. This ability can be particularly useful in a data warehouse environment where data is often moved in and out for running decision support queries.
• Improved query performance. Separating data through table partitioning allows you to improve query processing performance by avoiding scans of irrelevant data.

New features that improve database security and resiliency

Security enhancements include:

• Improved data access control at the row and column level with label-based access control (LBAC)
• A new security administrator authority level (SECADM) that collects several security-related privileges under one authority, providing greater control over access to information assets
• A new RESTRICT option for the CREATE DATABASE statement, which provides greater control over granting of database permissions

Backup and recovery enhancements include:

• The ability to restart interrupted recovery operations, which can save precious time and effort in database recovery situations.
• Support for performing redirected restore operations with scripts automatically generated from existing backup images.
• The ability to rebuild databases from table space backup images. This functionality makes DB2 recovery more robust and versatile and provides you with a more complete recovery solution.

New performance, manageability, and installation enhancements help reduce the time you spend managing your database

Performance and scalability enhancements include:

• The ability to compress table data objects using data row compression, which can help you achieve disk storage space savings, disk I/O savings, and quicker data access times
• Statistical data for views, which can provide better access plans for improving query performance
• Faster data-loading capabilities using customized scripts or programs
• MQT enhancements that provide better support for designing MQTs, better query performance, and improved MQT maintenance
• Larger record identifiers, which allow more data pages per object and more records per page for system and user temporary tables used by the database manager while performing operations such as sorts and joins
• Index keys that can include up to 64 columns and that are up to 8 KB in size

Manageability enhancements include:

• Simpler memory management using adaptive, self-tuning memory allocation. Self-tuning memory provides a configuration that is dynamic and responsive to significant changes in workload characteristics.
• Automatic statistic collection enabled by default when creating databases. With automatic statistics collection enabled, DB2 automatically runs the RUNSTATS utility in the background to ensure the correct statistics are collected and maintained.
• Automatic storage support for multipartition databases. This feature automatically grows the size of your database across disk and file systems, as required.
• ALTER TABLE statement enhancements that provide you with the ability to change some attributes of tables without having to drop and re-create the tables.
• New policy options that provide DBAs with new automatic table and index reorganization capabilities.
• The ability to copy database schemas and create model schemas. Once your DBAs establish a model schema, they can use it as a template for creating new versions.
• New administrative SQL routines and views that provide a primary, easy-to-use programmatic interface to administer DB2 through SQL.
• Dynamic Fast Communication Manager (FCM) buffers and new configuration parameters that can be tuned automatically by the DB2 database manager.

Installation enhancements include:

• More flexible and efficient management of product licenses
• The ability to install multiple DB2 versions and fix packs on the same computer
• New response file keywords that allow your IT staff to set up DB2 products without end-user interaction
• Nonadministrator installation of DB2 products on Windows using the Windows operating system elevated privileges feature

If you have an active Passport Advantage^® maintenance contract for existing licenses and are migrating from Version 8 to Version 9, IBM will provide you with the same functions in Version 9. DB2 UDB ESE V8 customers will be entitled to the Connection Concentrator, Governor, and to DB2 Connect^® Enterprise Edition — 25 Authorized Users — for each DB2 UDB ESE V8 processor (CPU). In addition, again in the case of a DB2 Version 8 to a DB2 Version 9 migration, the following functions are authorized for your use in all server products: MQTs, Multi-Dimensional Clustering, Query Parallelism, Backup/Restore Compression, Online Reorganization, and federated query access for DB2 and Informix™ data. The Mobility on Demand Feature will not be included anymore with DB2 Express, DB2 Workgroup, and DB2 Connect Enterprise Edition. Customers wanting this functionality need to purchase DB2 Everyplace V9.1.

Version 9 incompatibilities with previous releases

• JDBC Type 3 support is discontinued.
• Vendor load API (sqluvtld) is discontinued.
• VSE/VM objects are no longer supported in the DB2 Control Center.
• Data Links Manager is no longer supported.
• Data Warehouse Center is no longer included.
• Audio, Image, and Video Extenders are no longer supported.
• The Autoloader utility (db2atld) is no longer supported.
• The db2reg2large utility for converting DMS table space size is discontinued.
• The DB2_SCATTERED_IO registry variable is discontinued.
• The Desktop icon and folder making utility are no longer supported (Linux).
• The Extended Storage option for buffer pools is discontinued.
• NetBios and SNA communication protocols are no longer supported.
• DB2 Administration Tools are discontinued on some platforms. The DB2 Administration Tools are supported only on Windows x86, Windows x64 (AMD64/EM64T), 32-bit Linux on x86, and Linux for AMD64 and Intel^® EM64T.
• Text Extender is no longer supported.
• The db2profc and db2profp utilities are discontinued.
• The FCM no longer uses virtual interface architecture.

DB2 Net Search Extender

DB2 Net Search Extender V9.1 is now part of all DB2 data server products for Linux, UNIX, and Windows for no extra charge. To be compatible with the new DB2 XML functions, DB2 Net Search Extender fully supports the XML data type, and all text search functions can be used on XML documents that are stored natively in the database. DB2 Net Search Extender continues to support text search on XML documents stored in BLOB and CLOB data types.

DB2 Performance Expert

The DB2 Performance Expert (PE) is provided with the DB2 Performance Optimization Feature for Enterprise Server Edition. DB2 PE helps DBAs take a more proactive role to simplify database performance management and tuning so they can identify and resolve bottlenecks before they impact your business. It provides statistics, graphical views, and alerts on DB2 and OS system performance-related information so DBAs get the information they need to evaluate the ongoing health of their DB2 databases. It includes a Performance Warehouse that stores performance data over time and offers analysis features for further investigation and trend analysis of the historical data. Key enhancements in V2.2.1 include:

• Simplified monitoring, leading to better task efficiency
  • Ability to force applications from PE Client
  • Display of new precalculated values and new DB2 V9 snapshot data
  • Enhanced launch visual explain capabilities; for example, current schema
  • Enhanced integration of OS system parameters (new parameters and Linux support)
• Quicker anticipation of emerging DB2 performance problems and faster access to exception conditions
  • Extended filter capabilities
  • Integration of User Exit
  • Enhanced deadlock analysis capabilities, including statement history and parameter markers
• Enhanced historical data analysis capabilities
  • New predefined queries and new scheduler
  • SQL PL Profiling reports
• Special capabilities for monitoring CM and BI systems
• Simplified configuration
  • Dynamic enablement and change of monitored instances
  • Automatic maintenance for performance databases
• Enhanced platform support
  • Linux on zSeries^® 64-bit
  • 64-bit support for PE Agents

In addition to these enhancements, DB2 continues to provide specific improvements for the SAP environment by helping to:

• Reduce deployment time by installing a fully-tuned and configured DB2 as part of the SAP installation process
• Increase SAP performance with new SAP-specific optimizations and enhanced SAP monitoring and diagnostics tools

This latest release of DB2 continues to deliver unique capability for the SAP application.

Section 508 of the U.S. Rehabilitation Act

DB2 V9.1 is capable, when used in accordance with IBM's associated documentation, of satisfying the applicable requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, provided that any assistive technology used with the product properly interoperates with it.

FIPS 140-2 certification of DB2 V9.1 products: At the time of this announcement, DB2 data servers comply with the FIPS 140-2 U.S. federal government standard on Windows, Solaris, and Linux operating systems.

Product positioning

DB2 Editions for production deployment

DB2 Enterprise Server Edition V9.1 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: DB2 Enterprise 9 is designed to meet the data server needs of mid- to large-size businesses. It can be deployed on Linux, UNIX, or Windows servers of any size, from one processor to hundreds of processors. DB2 Enterprise 9 is an ideal foundation for building on demand enterprise-wide solutions such as large data warehouses of multiple terabyte size or high-performing, 24 x 7 available, high-volume transaction processing business solutions or Web-based solutions. It is the data server backend of choice for industry-leading ISVs building enterprise solutions such as business intelligence, content management, e-commerce, Enterprise Resource Planning, Customer Relationship Management, or Supply Chain Management. Additionally, DB2 Enterprise 9 offers connectivity, compatibility, and integration with other enterprise DB2 and IDS data sources.

Program charges: DB2 Enterprise 9 includes Table Partitioning, High-Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR), Online Reorganization, MQTs, Multidimensional Clustering (MDC), Query Parallelism, Connection Concentrator, the Governor, and Tivoli^® System Automation for Multiplatforms (SA MP). DB2 Enterprise 9 is available on either a per processor or per authorized user pricing model. You must acquire a separate user license for each authorized user of this product with a minimum purchase of 25 users per processor.

DB2 Workgroup Server Edition V9.1 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: DB2 Workgroup 9 is the data server of choice for deployment in a departmental, workgroup, or medium-size business environment. It is offered in both per authorized user or per processor pricing models to provide an attractive price point for medium-size installations while providing a full-function data server.

Program charges: DB2 Workgroup 9 can be deployed in Linux, UNIX, and Windows server environments on systems with up to four processors and 16 GB of memory. You must acquire a separate user license for each authorized user of this product, with a minimum purchase of five users per server.

DB2 Express Edition V9.1 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: DB2 Express 9 is a full-function DB2 data server, which provides very attractive entry-level pricing for the Small and Medium Business (SMB) market. It is offered in both per authorized user or per processor pricing models to provide choices to match SMB customer needs. It comes with simplified packaging and is easy to transparently install within an application. While it is easy to upgrade to the other editions of DB2 V9.1, DB2 Express 9 includes the same autonomic manageability features of the more scalable editions. You never have to change your application code to upgrade; simply install the license certificate to upgrade.

Program charges: DB2 Express 9 can be deployed on pervasive SMB operating systems, such as Linux or Windows, with up to two processors. The DB2 data server cannot use more than 4 GB of memory. You must acquire a separate user license for each authorized user of this product with a minimum purchase of five users per server.

DB2 Personal Edition for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: DB2 Personal 9 is a single-user, full-function relational database, with built-in replication, ideal for desktop or laptop-based deployments. DB2 Personal 9 can be remotely managed, making it the perfect choice for deployment in occasionally connected or remote office implementations that don't require multi-user capability.

Program charges: DB2 Personal 9 can be deployed on Linux or Windows. You must acquire a separate user license for each authorized user of this product.

Note: All DB2 data server products for Linux, UNIX, and Windows as well as DB2 Personal 9 include the DB2 Net Search Extender and DB2 Spatial Extender components.

DB2 Edition for Application Development Deployment

Database Enterprise Developer Edition: This edition offers a package for a single application developer to design, build, and prototype applications for deployment on any of the IBM Information Management client or server platforms. This comprehensive developer offering includes DB2 Workgroup 9 and DB2 Enterprise 9, IDS Enterprise Edition V10.0, Cloudscape™ V10.1, DB2 Connect Unlimited Edition for zSeries, and all the DB2 V9.1 features, allowing customers to build solutions that utilize the latest data server technologies.

Program charges: The software in this package cannot be used for production systems. You must acquire a separate user license for each authorized user of this product.

DB2 Enterprise 9 priced features

DB2 pureXML Feature for Enterprise Server Edition for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: This feature allows you to create XML columns in a DB2 database. This enables DB2 data server operations with XML data, such as creating tables with XML columns, adding XML columns to existing tables, creating indexes over XML columns, creating triggers on tables with XML columns, and inserting, updating, or deleting XML documents.

Program charges: This feature is available as an option for DB2 Enterprise 9 only. You must acquire this feature under the same charge metric as the underlying DB2 data server.

DB2 Storage Optimization Feature for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: This feature includes both Data Row Compression and Backup Compression to help maximize the use of existing storage:

• Data Row Compression uses a static dictionary-based compression algorithm to compress data by row. Compressing data at the row level is advantageous because it allows repeating patterns that span multiple column values within a row to be replaced with shorter symbol strings, allowing for improved performance. In I/O-bound systems it will not only reduce storage requirements but may improve overall performance.
• Backup Compression efficiently compresses data in the DB2 server buffer before data is written to the disk, providing fast backups and significantly smaller backup images.

Program charges: This feature is available as an option for DB2 Enterprise 9 only and can only be acquired if the underlying DB2 data server is licensed with the processor charge metric.

DB2 Advanced Access Control Feature for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: This feature increases the control you have over who can access your data. LBAC lets you decide exactly who has write access and who has read access to individual rows and individual columns.

Program charges: This feature is available as an option for DB2 Enterprise 9 only. You must acquire this feature under the same charge metric as the underlying DB2 data server.

DB2 Performance Optimization Feature for Enterprise Server Edition for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: DB2 Performance Optimization leverages the DB2 Performance Expert and DB2 Query Patroller components to bring you the best in performance tuning and monitoring. The Performance Optimization Feature contains the following components:

• DB2 PE is a performance analysis and tuning tool for managing a heterogeneous mix of DB2 systems with a single end-user interface. DB2 PE simplifies DB2 performance management by providing you with the capability to monitor applications, system statistics, and system parameters using a single tool.
• DB2 Query Patroller (QP) is a powerful query workload management offering that proactively and dynamically controls submission and execution of queries to better manage DB2 data server workloads to meet business needs.

Program charges: This feature is available as an option for DB2 Enterprise 9 only. You must acquire this feature under the same charge metric as the underlying DB2 data server.

DB2 Database Partitioning Feature for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: This is an optional feature of DB2 Enterprise 9 that allows partitioning of a database within a single Symmetric Parallel Processing (SMP) system or across a cluster of Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) systems. Data partitioning provides multiple benefits, including scalability to support very large databases with complex workloads, increased parallelism for faster query processing, and execution of various administration tasks.

Program charges: This feature is available as an option for DB2 Enterprise 9 only. It can only be acquired if the underlying DB2 data server is licensed with the processor charge metric. Each processor in the SMP or MPP environment must be licensed separately.

DB2 Geodetic Data Management Feature for Linux, UNIX, and Windows: This feature provides the ability to store, access, manage, or analyze location-based round earth information for weather, defense, intelligence, or natural resource applications for commercial or government use. It provides the ability to manage and analyze spatial information with accuracies in distance and area by treating the earth as a continuous spherical coordinate system.

Program charges: This feature is available as an option for DB2 Enterprise 9 only. You must acquire this feature under the same charge metric as the underlying DB2 data server.

DB2 Workgroup 9 and Express 9 priced features

DB2 pureXML Feature for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (for Express or Workgroup Editions): This feature allows you to create XML columns in a DB2 database. This enables DB2 data server operations with XML data, such as creating tables with XML columns, adding XML columns to existing tables, creating indexes over XML columns, creating triggers on tables with XML columns, and inserting, updating, or deleting XML documents.

Program charges: This feature is available as an option for DB2 Express 9 or DB2 Workgroup 9. You must acquire this feature under the same charge metric as the underlying DB2 data server.

DB2 High Availability Feature for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (for Express or Workgroup Editions): The DB2 High Availability Feature provides 24 x 7 continuous availability for your DB2 data server. The High Availability Feature contains the following components:

• HADR allows failover to a standby system in the event of a software or hardware failure on the primary system. HADR is included in DB2 Enterprise 9.
• Online Reorganization reconstructs the rows in a table to eliminate fragmented data and compact information for better performance while permitting uninterrupted access to the table data. Online Reorganization is included in DB2 Enterprise 9.
• IBM Tivoli SA MP provides high availability by automating the control of IT resources such as processes, filesystems, IP addresses, and other resources. It can coordinate the automatic failover to a standby DB2 data server using HADR. SA MP is included in DB2 Enterprise 9.

Program charges: This feature is available as an option for DB2 Express 9 or DB2 Workgroup 9. You must acquire this feature under the same charge metric as the underlying DB2 data server.

DB2 Performance Optimization Feature for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (for Express or Workgroup Editions): DB2 Performance Optimization combines the functionality of MQT, MDC, and Query Parallelism, providing performance optimizations for complex queries, data clustering for OLAP applications, and high performance for machines with multiple processors. The Performance Optimization Feature contains the following components:

• MQTs are a powerful way to improve response time for complex queries. MQTs are tables whose definition is based on the result of a query. As such, an MQT typically contains precomputed results. Queries executing against the MQT can help you obtain the results faster than you otherwise would. MQTs are included in DB2 Enterprise 9.
• MDC provides an elegant method for clustering data in tables along multiple dimensions in a flexible, continuous, and automatic way. MDC can significantly improve query performance. MDC is included in DB2 Enterprise 9.
• Query Parallelism allows for the simultaneous processing of parts of a single query by multiple processors, dramatically improving overall performance on multi-processor machines. Query Parallelism is included in DB2 Enterprise 9.

DB2 Workload Management Feature for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (for Express or Workgroup Editions): The DB2 Workload Management Feature leverages the Connection Concentrator in conjunction with either QP or the DB2 Governor to provide a more proactive, fail-safe workload environment for your customers. The Workload Management Feature contains the following components:

• Connection Concentrator allows for fail-safe operation and load balancing of a workload, and also allows reallocation of work with every new transaction. Connection Concentrator is included in DB2 Enterprise 9.
• QP is a powerful query workload management offering that proactively and dynamically controls submission and execution of queries to better manage DB2 data server workloads to meet business needs.
• The DB2 Governor monitors and changes the behavior of applications that run against the DB2 data server. The DB2 Governor manages application transactions by reactively limiting the resources available to a transaction based on a definable set of rules. The Governor is included in DB2 Enterprise 9.

IBM Homogeneous Federation Feature for DB2 databases: This feature for DB2 databases provides the ability to access multiple DB2 and Informix databases, local or remote, on a Linux, UNIX, or Windows server, as though they were a single database.

Program charges: This feature is available as an option for DB2 Express 9, DB2 Workgroup 9, or DB2 Enterprise 9. It can only be acquired if the underlying DB2 data server is licensed with the processor charge metric.

Memory requirements: The amount of memory required for the DB2 Runtime client depends on the operating system and the database applications that are running. In most cases, it should be sufficient to use the minimum memory requirements of the operating system as the minimum requirement for running the DB2 Runtime client. Graphical administration and application development tools that are part of the DB2 client require an additional 256 MB.

The following table shows the minimum memory in MB prerequisite to installation. The actual requirement depends on the applications you intend to run. Additional memory may be required to handle heavy workloads and a large number of concurrent users. The following numbers are for planning purposes only.

Security, auditability, and control

To protect data and resources associated with a database server, DB2 uses a combination of external security services and internal access control information. To access a database server, the user must pass some security checks before being given access to database data or resources.

DB2 products interface with external security mechanisms available with operating systems on which DB2 products are supported as well as support for the Kerberos security mechanism. DB2 has an integrated audit facility that can be used to track data access by users. The subsequent analysis of an audit log can lead to improvements in the control of data access and the ultimate prevention of malicious or careless unauthorized access to the data.

The customer is responsible for evaluation, selection, and implementation of security features, administrative procedures, and appropriate controls in application systems and communication facilities.

Charge metrics definitions

Processor

A processor (commonly called a CPU or core ) is a functional unit within a computing device that interprets and executes instructions. A processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology each core is considered a processor. With full capacity licensing, a Proof of Entitlement (PoE) must be acquired for all activated processors on the server available to the program or a component of the program.

Sub-capacity processor

A processor consists of at least an instruction control unit and one or more arithmetic or logic unit. With multicore technology each core is considered a processor. With sub-capacity licensing, a PoE must be acquired for all activated processors in partitions (utilizing eligible partitioning technologies) on the server available to the program or a component of the program.

Authorized user

An authorized user is one and only one individual (named or unnamed) within or outside your enterprise. A PoE must be obtained for each individual user accessing the program in any manner. A program licensed under an authorized user PoE may be installed on a single computer or server, and accessed by multiple users, provided that a PoE has been obtained for each individual user accessing the program either directly or indirectly (via a multiplexing program, device, or application server) through any means on behalf of the user.

Client device

A client device is a computing device that requests the execution of a set of commands, procedures, or applications from another computer system that is typically referred to as a server. Multiple client devices may share access to a common server. A client device generally has some processing capability or is programmable to allow a user to do work. Examples include, but are not limited to, notebook computers, desktop computers, deskside computers, technical workstations, appliances, ATMs, point-of-sale terminals, tills and cash registers, and kiosks.

Sub-capacity for selected middleware products

Sub-capacity licensing on a per-processor or per value unit basis is available for selected middleware products. To offer sub-capacity licensing, IBM software products implement IBM Tivoli License Manager within their offerings so that customers can monitor and report quarterly to IBM on their use of the programs on a continuous basis.

Eligibility requirements for sub-capacity licensing

To be eligible for sub-capacity licensing terms on this product, you must agree to install and configure IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software, in accordance with the IBM Tivoli License Manager publications, and to enable the collection of program use data on all eligible machines subject to sub-capacity terms.

For those machines running programs with sub-capacity licensing terms, you must use IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software to monitor program use and submit to IBM an IBM Use Report each calendar quarter. Multiple copies of IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software or IBM Tivoli License Manager are not required. You can use more copies if you need them to support your operational environment, but only one copy is required to monitor all your sub-capacity licensed products.

Additionally, if this is the first product you have licensed under sub-capacity terms, you must agree to the terms of an attachment to your Passport Advantage or Passport Advantage Express contract and submit a new Passport Advantage enrollment form. First-time sub-capacity clients also have an opportunity to ensure a Primary Business Contact is established for their contracts.

If you order this product under sub-capacity terms, IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software will be made available to you if you do not already have one. You must install and configure this tool for your sub-capacity products. Alternately, you can use Tivoli License Manager. Once the license manager software is installed, you will be required to register online (IBM may need to contact you in order to finalize the registration process). You must monitor program use on a continuous basis with an IBM Tivoli License Manager for IBM Software and submit IBM Use Reports to IBM on a calendar quarterly basis.

For one year from acquisition of the program, this warranty provides the customer with access to databases containing program information and FAQs, including any known fixes to defects, which the customer can download or otherwise obtain and install.

Program technical support: Technical support of a program product will be available for a minimum of three years from the general availability date, as long as your Software Maintenance is in effect. This technical support allows you to obtain assistance (via telephone or electronic means) from IBM for product-specific, task-oriented questions regarding the installation and operation of the program product. Software Maintenance also provides you with access to updates, releases, and versions of the program. Customers will be notified, via announcement letter, of discontinuance of support with 12 months' notice. If you require additional technical support from IBM, including an extension of support beyond the discontinuance date, contact your IBM representative or IBM Business Partner. This extension may be available for a fee.

Usage restriction — Database Enterprise Developers Edition

If this program is acquired through the IBM Database Enterprise Developer Edition, the program can be installed on one or more shared servers for use by all authorized users with valid IBM Database Enterprise Developer Edition licenses, up to the level of use authorized by the PoE. You may use all components of the program only for the purposes of evaluating, demonstrating, testing, and developing application programs.

If this program is acquired through the acquisition of another IBM program, the program-unique terms contained within that other IBM program take precedence.

The Mobility on Demand component may not be used for any other purpose.

DB2 Workgroup Server Edition

DB2 Personal Edition

This program is licensed for installation and use by an individual user at one workstation. Inbound connections to this product are licensed for administration use only.

Terms and conditions for high availability/failover licensing

You must license this configuration under the same charge metric as the underlying DB2 data server.

After the server is fully licensed, it can be used to service user workload. In high availability configurations, this server is called a primary server ; additional servers acting as backups are called standby servers that may be deployed in active or idle configurations.

In active standby or idle standby, you must acquire a correct number of processor or authorized user PoE in addition to the processor or authorized user PoE you obtained for the primary server.

• In an active standby configuration, the program is operational on all servers to service user transactions or queries. Because each of the active standby servers is used to operate the program for user transactions or queries before and after a failure, the program must be fully licensed on all active servers.

  If you are licensing under the processor charge metric, then in active standby, you must license the program for the number of processors attached or available to the active standby servers. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one primary server with two processors and one active standby server with two processors. This environment must be licensed for four processors (two for the primary server and two for the active standby server).

  If you are licensing under the authorized user charge metric, then in active standby, you must license the program for the number of authorized users associated with the active standby servers for which DB2 is installed. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one primary server with DB2 installed on two processors and the other an active standby server with DB2 installed on two processors. The primary server must be licensed with the minimum number of authorized users for the server on which DB2 is installed or the total number of authorized users accessing the data server installed on the two processors, whichever is greater. For the active standby server, the server must be licensed in the same manner as the primary server; for example, the minimum number of authorized users for the active standby server or the total number of authorized users accessing the data server, whichever is greater.

• In an idle standby configuration, idle standby servers have the program installed. However, they do not have the program operational to service user transactions or query workloads. A server is considered idle if it is used exclusively for administrative actions that assist in failover scenarios such as having a database in roll-forward pending state to support log shipping, or in making a flash copy of a DB2 database and then performing a database backup of this copy on another server, or in keeping a standby database synchronized using the HADR component.

  If you are licensing under the processor charge metric, then in idle standby, you must license the program for one processor per idle standby server only, regardless of the number of processors attached or available to the server. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one primary server with two processors and one idle standby server with two processors. This environment must be licensed for three processors (two for the primary server and one for the idle standby server).

  If you are licensing under the authorized user charge metric, then in idle standby, you must license the program for the minimum number of authorized users per idle standby server only. For example, consider an environment with two servers, one primary server with DB2 installed on two processors and one idle standby server with two processors. The primary server must be licensed with the minimum number of authorized users for each of the two processors for which DB2 is installed, or the total number of authorized users accessing the data server installed on the two processors, whichever is greater. For the idle standby server, only the minimum number of authorized users associated with the server must be licensed.

Software maintenance applies: Yes

Software Maintenance, previously referred to as Software Subscription and Technical Support, is included in the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. Installation and technical support is provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service provides voice and electronic access to IBM support organizations.

IBM includes one year of Software Maintenance with the initial license acquisition of each program acquired. The initial period of Software Maintenance can be extended by the purchase of a renewal option, if available.

While your Software Maintenance is in effect, IBM provides you assistance for your routine, short duration installation and usage (how-to) questions; and code-related questions. IBM provides assistance via telephone and, if available, electronic access, only to your information systems (IS) technical support personnel during the normal business hours (published prime shift hours) of your IBM support center. Software Maintenance does not include assistance for the design and development of applications, your use of programs in other than their specified operating environment, or failures caused by products for which IBM is not responsible under this agreement.
