MSDN Library provides access to essential programming information, including technical reference documentations, white papers, software development kits and code samples necessary to develop web services and applications. This is an updated version of the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005. Major updates in this library version include Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 documentation and Windows Vista™ Developer documentation.

System Requirements

  • Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows Vista; Windows XP

MSDN Library System requirements
  • PCs with a Pentium 600 MHz processor or higher.
  • Microsoft Windows® 2000 Service Pack 4, Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2, Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 or later.
  • 1.7 GB of available hard-disk space minimum on installation drive for minimum install; 2.2 GB for full install.
  • Super VGA (800 x 600) monitor with 256 colors.
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer® 6.0 Service Pack 1 or later.
  • Additional 2.2 GB of disk space required to download the .IMG file.


Note: If you have purchased Microsoft Visual Studio® 2005, the MSDN Library is integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Help by default and is integrated into the F1 Help function. However, the MSDN Library can also be installed and viewed as a stand-alone reference, and does not require Visual Studio 2005.

Instructions

Download instructions
    1. Click on the 4 ISO image downloads available on this page and save to your hard drive in a temporary directory.
    Note: 2.3 GB of disk space is required to download.
    2. Rename downloaded .img files to .iso file extension and follow the ISO handling instructions below.

Note: If you are looking for the DVD download image, it is still available on MSDN Subscription downloads.

Options for handling downloaded ISO Images.
Following 2 options are available for CD ISO handling.
    1. Write the ISO files to blank CD-R (i.e. burn image). Most recommended.
    2. Mount ISO files virtually as CD-ROM devices.

Installation Instructions
    1. On CD disk 1, locate Setup.exe and double click to initiate installation.
    2. Follow the Setup Wizard instructions to completion.
    3. After the setup process has completed, the MSDN Library can be accessed through Start--> Programs-->Microsoft Developer Network-->MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005

    Note: If setup detects an earlier version of the MSDN Library for Visual Studio 2005, this edition will update the earlier version.
